Why I Chose Dementia Care

It brings me so much joy to help older adults, and watch them thrive. I've been a caregiver for a long time, a client I cared for came to OPICA until he passed at 104 years old. I became part of the OPICA team shortly after that. 11 years now, I still carry his ID card to remind me why I do this.

My Favorite Part of OPICA

The singing. I love to watch the members sing and I love to sing along. I had a friend who worked here with me and we used to sing along together. The memory of her also makes singing my favorite part of the day.

Life D oesn't E nd W hen D ementia Begins

"Alzheimer's has changed my style of painting; it hasn't changed my passion for art," says John Williams, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in January 2014, at the age of 70. "It is a huge part of my life... I'll carry on with my art as long as I can hold a paintbrush. I always keep a smile on my face because I've had a good life, and it's not over yet." John is not alone in his perseverance to stay engaged with life, despite dementia.
