  Village Driving Services Now Available!
Our first Driver Training Session saw 15 people learn the ins and outs of ChaiVillageLA’s driving policies. We now have a bunch of member volunteer drivers ready, willing, and able to drive YOU to your next appointment or event! Do you want a ride? We’d love to set it up for you. Are you proud of your chicken soup? Do your grandchildren love it? Is it your Bubbe's recipe? We want YOU to enter a pot of your favorite chicken soup in the Chicken Soup Cook-off, Presented by the ChaiVillageLA Culinary Interest Group. This is a great chance to meet other chicken soup lovers AND to earn Village volunteer hours!

RECENT EVENTS
Israeli Leader and Activist Joins Village Walk 
Village walkers were joined by Anat Hoffman (third from right). Anat is an Israeli activist and serves as Executive Director of the Israel Religious Action Center, also known as IRAC. She is the director and founding member of Nashot HaKotel, also known as Women of the Wall. Hoffman is a former member of the Jerusalem City Council. In 2013, the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, named her "Person of the Year,” noting the award reflected "the prominence that she has achieved across the Jewish world.” The Jerusalem Post listed her fifth among its list of 50 Most Influential Jews, for forcefully and successfully bringing the issue of women's rights at the Kotel to the "forefront of the consciousness of world Jewry.”

Beginning Bridge Drop-In Game and Practice

 This drop-in practice is a continuation of the group that learned to play bridge under the tutelage of Dean Schenker, a member of ChaiVillageLA. Every Tuesday at 8:15 AM a group from our Village walks around Rancho Park with one of our clergy. It’s an easy walk and a great time for some conversation with the rabbi or cantor and other Village friends. We meet at the corner of Patricia and Cushdon. There is ample free parking. The easy walk takes 45-60 minutes.

This discussion group focuses on the news of the week. Participants share articles and opinions that pertain to what's happening both in the United States and internationally, and particularly to introduce diverse views. Many of the "pundits" we analyze write for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. You will also examine such magazines as The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New Republic, and other journals that give in-depth coverage of current topics. This is your chance to listen and be heard on the events of the day.    

The class is taught by Village member, Myrna Hant. Myrna received her PhD in Higher Education from UCLA. She was a college administrator as well as an instructor in Women's Studies at Chapman University.

Join us if you are interested in learning about the difference between social action and social justice and how we can incorporate them into our ChaiVillageLA DNA. At this gathering, you'll have a chance to meet many other like-minded Village members involved in social action and social justice projects either through their temple or on their own. Learn about the difference and reflect on what you feel most inspired to do next. Bring your passion, ideas, and connections as together, we plan future activities or join in on existing ones!  
  Intergenerational Day at the LA Zoo

Village Members have expressed interest in having intergenerational programming -- here’s our first one! Join us for this wonderful day at the zoo with your (great) grandchildren, nieces, nephews, mentees or just yourselves! 

Marcia Jindal, a ChaiVillageLA member and Zoo docent for over 30 years, will lead us on a tour through the LA Zoo. The tour will cover at least three types of animals on a 2+ hour walking journey throughout the zoo. Families are free to continue their visit after the tour concludes. There will be a lot of walking, mostly uphill, so plan accordingly. Families are free to bring their own lunches to the event.  

IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION: There is a group discount rate: $17 per adult; $14 for children 2 years and older. For the discount, we must have at least 15 people (otherwise, general admission is $20 per adult 13 years or older; $17 per senior 62 years or older; $15 per child 2-12 years; and children under 2 are free).   

We will gather at the front admissions gate and enter as a group at 9:45AM.

Rebecca Schenker and Jason Spitz welcomed Ezra Joseph Spitz. Ezra debuted at 8 lbs 8 oz., 20.5 inches.
Adam Schenker and Carin Yavorcik welcomed Maia Anna Schenker. Maia debuted at 6 lbs 3 oz.,19.5 inches.
All parties are home, resting, growing, and perhaps getting some sleep.
