National Geographic
Southern Africa Safari

From December 27, 2016 to January 4, 2017, I along with my children aged 14 and 21, traveled to South Africa to join National Geographic's Southern Africa Safari by private air.

Carol Guy, our tour leader and Bill Branch, our accompanying biologist, were organized, knowledgeable and had warm relationships with people at all the reserves.  We were greeted and treated like family.  We stayed in the Sabal Camp at MalaMala Game Reserve in South Africa in large comfortable rooms facing the Sand River, where even before our first game drive we sat on our deck and watched rhinos, impalas and baboons stroll along the banks.

Guided by outstanding rangers, Morne, Michael and Theo, we saw the big five within 24 hours and were treated with long visits with seriously endangered cape hunting dogs and the lions of the Eyrefield pride.  It is a magical place.

We next visited Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana, staying in modern rooms and eating dinners under the stars.  Friendly and knowledgeable rangers, including Harrison and Kenosi, escorted us by jeep, bike and on foot through the bush.  We saw adult and young nursing giraffes, zebra, hyena, cheetah, leopard, rhino, elephants, kudu, waterbuck, lechwe and innumerable species of bird, including an African fish eagle eating an antelope leg.

Next was Camp Xakanaka in the Moremi Game Reserve where we stayed in luxurious tents on the Khwai River with hippos, cape buffalo and herds of elephant surrounding us.   We flew from reserve to reserve on a DC3 operated by Skypass Air.  Captain Bill Good and the cabin attendant of all cabin attendants, Werner, took great care of us.  It was the trip of a lifetime and I recommend it without reservation!

TIPTOEING THROUGH
THE TULIPS
Suzanne Laws

My sister-in-law, Amber, and I had the pleasure of cruising the waterways of the Netherlands and Belgium during tulip season last April on AmaWaterway's AmaSerena.  We began our adventure in Amsterdam where we visited the Keukenhof Gardens, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Red Light District.

Highlights of the river cruise were a walking tour or Hoorn, visiting the Arnhem Airborn Museum and War Cemetery, and experiencing Floralia - the annual spring flower show at the historic Kasteel van Groot-Bijgaarden in Brussels.  Our most challenging day was our walking tours of both Ghent and Bruges. We truly enjoyed the day; but our feet paid for it that night.

We enjoyed getting to know all of the passengers on the AmaSerena while partaking of delicious cuisine and local wines.  We liked the relaxed atmosphere on the river cruise and are looking forward to our next AmaWaterways cruise on the Douro in Portugal aboard the AmaVida. Chynell continues to work on my travel wishes throughout the year.

TAMPA THEATER TRIP
(OVER NIGHT)
PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

From the craggy peaks of the Blue Mountains to the lush tropics of Queensland and the coral treasure land of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia has something unusual and something special to offer visitors - even those traveling by motorcoach.

The most frequently visited places in Australia's vast "red
center" have been tamed and put on a tour, but the Outback hasn't lost its fr on tier allure. Watching the sunset at Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock) has become something of a circus with the hordes of motorcoaches, camper vans and motorcycles that crowd the parking lot, but watching the scalloped monolith go from reddish-brown to a haunting burnt-orange against the desert sky is still a magical-some say spiritual-experience.

The same can be said for much of the rest of this country that's also a continent. Sydney may have joined the ranks of the world's top cities, but its architecture, stunning harbor, and electric, manic personality keep it singular: you won't mistake it for anywhere else.

Hotel del Coronado, San Diego's legendary oceanfront beach resort, has been captivating imaginations for over 128 years.

Welcome to the iconic Hotel del Coronado where a legendary past blends with timeless ch arm and casual elegance. Majestically situated on America's most beloved beach , The
Del's contemporary luxury and classic Southern California style offers something magical for everyone. From a romantic seaside escape to an inspirational gathering place for groups and destination weddings,

The Del creates memorable moments that capture the hearts of every generation.

Sailing under the banner of its appropriate tag line "180º From Ordinary," Windstar offers an alternative to the typical cruise or resort vacation. The Windstar passenger sees the world from a romantic sailing ship or a sleek, sexy power yacht with luxurious accommodations, a casual yet elegant atmosphere, and exquisite service and cuisine.
