O'Hara Student, Gloria Rear, to Perform at Dance Benefit

All  That! Dance Company will host its  annual "Overcome" event.   Each year the concert is dedicated to an organization that embraces the spirit of overcoming adversity. This year's event will be dedicated to the protection of those who have the least among us.  Dancers will explore thematic elements that include the refugee crisis, homelessness, poverty, and need. Themes of hope, love, and community will be woven throughout the concert. Eight female dancers will grace the stage to a cover of "How Far I'll Go" from Disney's hit Moana as they move through the water towards a new land. Soloist Gloria Rear will take the stage with a poignant representation of those living on the streets in need, with her powerful contemporary piece that recently won the Spotlight Dance Cup 2017 Outstanding Choreography award.   In addition, many other O'Hara students are involved in this benefit concert on  March 18th  and are donating their time and talents to raise funds for the Esther House - a home for abused and abandoned children in Cambodia.

Financial Assistance
Families who are unable to pay the full monthly tuition amount for the 2017/2018 school year are required to apply for scholarship through the FACTS process. The on-line application is  https://online.factsmgt.com/signin/3GKCR. Missing the deadline can affect the amount available to all families at O'Hara. The deadline for online applications is March 31, 2017 Assistance will not be allocated to families who do not complete a FACTS application.  If you are a Catholic family requesting scholarship, you must also apply for subsidy from your parish. This is a prerequisite to receiving scholarships for Catholics.
Parish Subsidy
Subsidy is a form of tuition assistance specifically for Catholics who should all be actively participating in their faith through their local church. You will find a subsidy request form in your packet. This application needs to be filled out and returned to your parish office before  March 15th , or within your Parish specific deadline. If you attend St. Mary's and you received subsidy last year, you will also receive the additional application in your folder. If you are recently eligible for St. Mary's subsidy, you can download a Parish Subsidy form here

Parishes send a check to the school for the amount that is reduced from your tuition contract. The churches must budget for this expense, so it is very important to turn in your request to your church in the next two weeks, so they may plan for that financial obligation. This expense is embraced by the church, and in return it is appropriate to embrace your commitment to your parish by attending weekly Mass, volunteering in areas that help the church directly, and participating in the tithing process.

Project Starfish!
Project Starfish is the brainchild of former Springfield Mayor and State Senator Bill Morrisette. The project's goal is to break the cycle of homelessness one family at a time. Each year the O'Hara community joins together by participating in a variety of fundraising projects during the season of Lent in an effort to raise funds to help homeless families through a partnership with Catholic Community Services.

Click HERE to read a schedule of events and activities that will be happening at O'Hara during Lent. The project will conclude with an assembly when the funds from our efforts will be presented to a representative of Catholic Community Services.

Newman Center shoe collection
St. Thomas More Newman Center is collecting gently used shoes as a fund raiser for their spring break mission trip. Newman Center is collecting any adult  and children sized shoes, including athletic shoes. Once the shoes are received, they are processed for exports to various countries in South America & Africa, where they create thousands of jobs for small businesses who resell them as a means of supporting their families. It is a win-win situation: help our students attend their spring break mission trip helping the poor and needy in New Orleans, and help families in a third world country as well!
You can drop off shoes at the Newman Center Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm or call the following number and we will arrange pick up! (458-215-4209)
