"Above all else, this Rutherford site sits on prized dirt, and that is exactly what comes through in the Round Pond wines. In a word: pedigree." - Antonio Galloni

2014 Round Pond Estate
Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot

We have been selling Round Pond Cabernet for years. This week their distributor asked us to consider the 2014 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon for offer to you. Yesterday, we just picked up a bottle to taste----"this stuff is too easy to drink" were the first words out of Michele's mouth.  The tannin layer i s evident, chew y and packed with caramel. The flavor profile is plum, both black and red pl um which finally morph into wild berries at the finish. From about mid palate on, white chocolate wraps the plum and berry components. This Cab drinks beautifully now, it is elegant and seamless.  We anticipate the Round Pond will easily cellar for ten years or more. Round Pond has achieved multiple 90 plus point reviews for their Estate Cab each vintage for the last eight vintages. The first r

Vinous / Antonio Galloni - "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a gorgeous example of both the property and the vintage. Bright floral notes and vibrant red berry fruit five the Estate much of its gracious, finely-knit personality. This is an especially nuanced, mid-weight Rutherford Cabernet, not to mention of wine of total harmony and class."   92 points

Vintage & Viticulture
The 2014 harvest began and ended early with near perfect weather. Heavy rains in late February and early March were well-timed and kicked off bud break soon after. Ripening was steady and rapid, and we began picking fruit some days earlier than any other previous vintage at Round Pond.  Drought conditions meant that berry sizes were smaller, releasing more concentrated flavors and the potential for greater structure.  After a few rounds of barrel-by-barrel selection, our favorite lots were blended in early spring, giving them ample time to marry.
