Many of the counselor groups for grades 1-5 have ended or will be ending in a week. If you have any concerns or need me to check in with your child - don't hesitate to call or email me.
This is the time of year to begin Kindergarten pre-enrollment for next year's Kindergartners. If you have a child who currently goes to VES and have a Kindergartner that will begin school next year, please email me and let me know who they are. I will be working on building placement for Kindergarten soon and knowing siblings really helps in a smooth transition.

Dear Boys and Girls,
Bears don't wear mittens or gloves because we have furry paws. Kids don't have fur so when it is cold outside, they need to wear winter clothes like coats, hats and mittens. That's how people keep warm.
One kid I know named Harrison never had his mittens with him, he would either lose them or forget them on the bus. Usually, he didn't even mind, but once when it got very cold, his fingers got numb and he was crying. He said that his fingers hurt a lot, and it was hard to move them. The teacher made him go right to the school nurse, and she warmed him up and loaned him some gloves. She told Harrison that he had to be responsible about his gloves or he would get frostbite. Frostbite is when a part of a person's body begins to freeze. It is very painful, even after the person gets warm again.
Gloves and mittens keep kids from getting frostbite on our fingers. Hats and hoods keep kids from getting frostbite on their ears. Scarves and ski masks help keep kids from getting frost bite on their noses. Boots and socks help keep kids from getting frost bite on their toes. Those parts are all the farthest from the warm middle of you, and they are the ones that need extra covering when it is very cold or windy and cold.
Dress warmly on cold days. Wear your warm clothes out for recess and to play after school. If any part of you starts to feel tingly or numb, go inside!
Does this school ever have indoor recesses when it is very cold and windy outside? That's because people, and bears, need to keep their bodies warm, even when it's cold out!
Love,
Wuzzy

Dress Code
USD 266 recognizes that the apparel of the student is primarily the responsibility of the parent. However, the school will insist upon attire that is conducive to the learning environment. The guidelines listed below are designed to prevent distractions in order to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. The parent and student are responsible for ensuring that the student is in compliance with all aspects of the policy during the time the student is at school or participating in school related activities. Failure by the student to correct dress code violations may result in disciplinary action.
Building administrators are the final authority as to whether clothing is or is not in compliance with dress code policy. All clothing should be modest and appropriate for school.
The guidelines for appropriate attire are:
1. Pants, capris, shorts and skirts should be modest and appropriate for school. Sagging is not allowed. Tight-fitting pants must be covered appropriately.
2. Shorts or skirt length must extend to the fingertips.
3. Shirts should be modest and appropriate for school. Straps must comer undergarments and midriff. No halter tops, racer back, off the shoulder, or one shoulder tops are allowed.
4. Shoes must be worn at all times.
5. Head wear, including hats, scarves, bandannas and hoods are not to be worn except on special days as approved by the administration.
6. Any item that advocates or advertises tobacco, alcoholic beverages, drugs, illegal substances, violence, racist organizations/symbols, gangs, obscenities, nudity or have double meanings are not allowed.

Each year RMHC Wichita sponsors a state wide Pull Tab Program. We collect the metal piece located on the top of a soda can or any other can with an aluminum tab. These pieces are known as pop tabs or pull tabs. (Most soup and cat food can tabs are made from tin so unfortunately we cannot take them.) This activity not only helps save the earth, but it also raises much-needed awareness about how one individual's contribution can make a substantial difference for a family staying at one of our Ronald McDonald Houses or using our Ronald McDonald Family Room.
Collecting pull tabs is fun and easy. It is also a great way for children, families, schools and companies to get involved!
Drop off your pull tabs at VES in your child's classroom.
