It may be hard to believe, but Centre Gives will be upon us in about a month!

As a record 147 participating local organizations prepare for the most impactful 36 hours of giving in our community, I wanted to share something new with you.

It might not be as easy as pulling your credit card from your wallet, but there are three great reasons why you should consider a gift of stock - at any time of year, but especially during Centre Gives.

Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions about this new feature or any of the stories below.

As always, thank you for being a part of our generous community,

Save the Date: TelePoem Booth Ribbon Cutting!

Visitors to downtown State College will soon be able to enjoy a new attraction, a Telepoem Booth.  Beginning April 14th at 7:00 pm, people exploring Webster's Bookstore in downtown State College will be able to enter the phone booth and dial up a recorded poem. The poems will be classic, modern, and curated from local poets, community members, and students.

After visiting Flagstaff, Arizona and discovering an interactive Telepoem Booth there, John Ziegler knew he had to bring one to State College.

“John enthusiastically brought this idea back from Flagstaff and, thanks to a grant from the Knight Foundation Donor-Advised Fund here at Centre Foundation, we’ll soon be able to enjoy a Telepoem Booth right here in Centre County,” said Molly Kunkel, Executive Director at Centre Foundation. “This booth will add another element of whimsical fun and art to downtown State College.”

John Ziegler spearheaded the effort along with Sarah Russell, Steve Deutsch, Katie Bode-Lang, and Mary McGuire.  The team collected over 300 local poetry submissions, reviewed them, and coordinated the recordings of accepted poems by their respective poets.

“The Telepoem Booth is a unique way to bring poems to people’s daily lives,” noted Ziegler.  “We will have classical and modern poems, as well as the work of our local poets – all available by dialing a rotary phone in an old-fashioned phone booth and hearing a poem read by a poet.”

Centre PACT Students Make an Impact

Taking a break from fundraising, the students focused on hands-on volunteerism in March. They collected items for the Home Nursing Agency's Nurse-Family Partnership program, which helps first-time, low-income mothers.

The students also c reated motivational posters based on character traits that will be displayed at the Penns Valley Youth Center, which serves 6th through 12th grade students in the local school district.
Centre Gives Success Series

Approximately 175 people attended the combined 10 hours of seminars that were held during the month of March to prepare non-profit staff, board members, and volunteers for Centre Gives 2017.

The series of five seminars focused on messaging, communications, fundraising, prize strategy, and other skills that can serve local organizations not just during the 36 hours of Centre Gives, but also 365 days a year.
To inspire and facilitate a culture of giving which creates a vibrant community.
