Generic Diabetes IMG
Managing your diabetes just got easier. A series of new Diabetes Classes at Memphis Public Libraries will equip and empower customers with the tools they need to live full and worry-free lives. This six-week educational series, currently underway at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave., meeting room A), is planned for 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays now through April 27, 2017. To participate, customers are asked to register by calling 1-800-528-2655, ext. 2643. (Walk-ins are also welcomed.)

During each informative session, certified instructors from partnering agency Qsource will use simple and interactive props to teach senior citizens how diabetes affects their bodies, about the different types of diabetes and self-care, how to prevent complications and manage the condition through diet and exercise, along with coping mechanisms for those who have been diagnosed.

Customers at Raleigh Library (3157 Powers Road) should mark their calendars for a one-time Diabetes Class at 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017. No registration is required for this course, which will focus on controlling diabetes.

TEENS

Teens in CLOUD901 are 'Talking' About New Show
Do I fit in? What does everyone think of me? Are my grades and test scores good enough? Am I good enough?

CLOUD Talk IMG
Teens inside Memphis Public Libraries' CLOUD901 no longer have to face life's coming-of-age questions alone. Now, they can talk about them during CLOUD901's new talk show CLOUD Talk, a monthly web series written, directed and produced by teens in partnership with Memphis Public Library's TV station, WYPL.

Click here to view the most recent episode - "Stress."

"We wanted to offer teens in CLOUD901 an outlet for self-expression, along with the 21st century skills needed to create a professional-quality video production, like critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration," explained  CLOUD901 Manager Jessica Chaney. "Teens working on the series take complete creative control from writing content to filming and editing."

CHILDREN

New Interactive Storytimes Coming to Cossitt Library in Downtown Memphis

Child Bicycling Generic IMG
Memphis Public Libraries want to be a part of our customers' fondest memories, like every child's rite of passage from training wheels to their first time of riding without them.

The Library's new interactive program - Bicycle Storytimes and Riding Lessons - makes this once-in-a-lifetime experience a memorable one as families participate in this free, educational program. Offered in partnership with Revolutions Bicycle Co-Op, Bicycle Storytimes and Riding Lessons are planned for 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, April 22 and May 13 at the historic Cossitt Library (33 S. Front St.) in downtown Memphis.

"Cossitt Library has a great view of the river, making it an ideal location for outdoor programming," said Children's Services Coordinator Jennifer Hornby. "The exciting work happening downtown on the Fourth Bluff and Big River Crossing, along with Cossitt Library's new collection of children's books, makes Cossitt a downtown destination for Memphis families - one that provides opportunities for children to learn and grow."

Following a storytime about bikes inside the Library, riders of all ages will take to the open road! Younger siblings are also invited to join the fun on their tricycles. Customers are asked to bring their own bikes and safety gear to the event, where representatives from Revolutions will be there to assist in removing training wheels as needed.
