Odyssey  of the Mind

On  Saturday, Feb. 25 our Odyssey of the Mind teams competed in the Northern Regional Tournament.  After both the long term problem and spontaneous competitions were complete one of our teams scored:

Problem 2 Division 3: 1st Place

Emma Mulligan - 10th grade
Jude Mulligan - 9th grade
Morgan Braun - 8th grade (Camp Ernst Middle) Anya Tyree - 8th grade (Camp Ernst Middle) Elyse Sergent - 7th grade (Camp Ernst Middle)

Problem 2 Long Term was Odd-a-Bot, and the students had to build a robot that mimicked 4 movements by a human and repeated those movements again in a humorous manner.  They also had to represent 2 generations of a family and have a creative shelter.     Our team was made up of grandparents and grandchildren, they built a 6 paneled 6'x4' folding house with a living room and kitchen. Their theme was telling the story of how Grandma and Grandpa fell in love over dreaming how they would spend a lottery ticket's winnings morphing into BNL's "If I had a Million Dollars!"  Their robot was 5' tall and worked as a one-man-band, singing, clapping, and drumming to the song and then throwing money into the air.  The kids built props of all the items in the song and as it played and they sang, they brought them out or revealed them on their costumes (Grandpa revealed a homemade, very tacky green dress!)

Synopsis: Creativity is being taken away from the world, and it is up to Odyssey teams to rescue it! Teams will create and present a humorous performance about an unexpected superhero that encounters three different situations where it must save creativity in some way. The superhero will change appearance when it displays its superpowers and go back to blending in with society when not. The performance will also include a clumsy sidekick, a nemesis character, a choreographed battle, and a cliffhanger ending.

State competition is March 25th at the University of the Cumberlands.  Wish our Odyssey teams the best!
