CJ Parent Weekly

Join us for the annual CJ Fish Fry this Saturday, March 18 from 6-11 p.m. As always, CJ's Fish Fry will include all food (fish, fries, slaw, sausage, mac & cheese, baked beans, brownies) and beverages. Additionally, there will be casino-style games and college basketball playing on the big screens in the gym. Proceeds from this event benefit the Blue Green Club. This parent organization gives back to our students by supporting athletics, performing arts, the After Prom, and more.

Online pre-sale registration for the Fish Fry will end at 8 a.m. on Friday, March 17. The admission is $15 and is available on the CJ website. Admission at the door will be $20. There are no physical tickets this year.

Tuesday, Mar. 21 - SCHEDULE CHANGE

No ELC - 12:15 p.m. Dismissal

There will be no ELC on Tuesday, Mar. 21 due to the student testing day for juniors, sophomores, and freshmen. School will end at 1 2:15 p.m. this day and all students must make arrangements for transportation to be picked up no later than 12:30 p.m. Seniors should not report to school this day.

This past week, the Church in the USA celebrated "National Catholic Sisters Week." It was an opportunity to honor and to give thanks for the many Vowed Religious Sisters who minister in the Church through a variety of ways. At CJ, we are lucky to have Sr. Nicole, of the Marianist Sisters, on our staff and Sr. Kim, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, on our Board of Trustees. The next time you see one of these Sisters, or the many others who serve in the Dayton area, be sure to thank them for their Gospel witness and say a prayer of gratitude for their service.

Reconciliation

As we continue through the season of Lent, all religion classes went to the chapel this week and students had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Several priests were available to our students each period.

Students attending the March junior retreat received information this week regarding the procedure that needs to be followed should a student need to take medication while on retreat. Signed forms acknowledging that parents have read this information are due back Wednesday, Mar. 22 .

AIA Dayton Annual High School Design Competition

Awards Ceremony - Sunday, Mar. 19 | 3 p.m.

Area high school students, including 13 from CJ, designed outdoor performance venues for downtown Dayton.

Projects are on display this week at Third Perk Coffeehouse (46 West 5th St., Dayton). The awards ceremony for this competition will be held on Sunday, Mar. 19 at 3 p.m. at Heapy Engineering (1400 W. Dorothy Lane, Kettering).

Performance - Mathemagician Dr. Arthur Benjamin

Thursday, Mar. 23 | 7 p.m. | Clark State

Dr. Arthur Benjamin, known for bringing magic and math together, will perform at Clark State Community College on Thursday, March 23 at 7 p.m. More details can be found online.

2017 Spring Job Shadow Day

Football House Draft

Sunday, Mar. 19 | 1-3 p.m. | Cafeteria

The football team will be having its House Football Draft on Sunday, Mar. 19 from 1-3 p.m. in the cafeteria. This is mandatory for all football players. Football families are welcome to stay and be part of the event.

CALENDAR REMINDERS

Class of 2018 - LAST CALL

ACT Testing on Tuesday, Mar. 21

All juniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, Mar. 21. This test is an official, full-length ACT (English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science only) which will result in a college reportable score.
Juniors should understand the importance of this test and prepare for it just like an ACT given on a Saturday morning. The only differences are:

this test is free; and,
there is no need to go online to register.

Students are permitted to use a calculator on the mathematics portion (please see ACT's guidelines on permitted calculators) and a number 2 pencil (not mechanical) is required. Students will complete pre-test information prior to taking the test and will need to report what colleges they want to receive their scores. Students are allowed to send their scores to up to four colleges or universities. While sending scores to colleges is optional, doing so at this point can save the cost of having to send the scores directly from ACT to the college in the future.

College Credit Plus

Saturday, Apr. 15 -
DEADLINE

College Credit Plus (CCP) is a program offered by the state of Ohio which allows high school students to simultaneously earn high school and college credit. Students may take CCP classes either on a college campus, online through the college, or at the high school.

To participate in CCP, students must complete a series of steps including being accepted to the college as a CCP student and applying for funding from the state. There are several hard deadlines which must be met as well--especially Saturday, Apr. 15, the last day to apply for funding. Please refer to CJ's College Credit Plus page for more information regarding the program including a list of steps to complete and the corresponding deadlines.
