Exceptional Children's Week - March 6-9, 2017
Exceptional Children's Week is an annual event celebrating children and youth with exceptionalities and the professionals who serve them. This year's theme is "Making Education Fit". At Milton High School we will be celebrating with various activities for both students and staff throughout the week, culminating in the presentation of the YES I CAN! Award to a student selected by teachers and staff.
SGC ELECTIONS: MARCH 22-28ELECTIONS
It is SGC elections season. Elections will take place March 22nd-28th for parent/guardian representatives and teacher representatives. Each candidate has prepared a statement introducing him/herself and explaining why s/he wants to serve on the Council. Personalized Grad Lawn signs will be available for purchase for $25/$35 on March 1. Deadline for ordering is May 5th. This is a senior class fundraiser to help pay for the Class of 2017 Legacy Gift to the school.

The deadline for ordering Graduation Announcements has been extended to March 3. Please click on the Seniors page (under Students) on the school website at www.miltonhighschool.com for ordering information and further details.

GRADUATION PACKAGEGRADUATIONPKG
The deadline for 2017 graduates to order caps and gowns before a $25 price increase is March 14 . A graduation package (required for participation in the graduation ceremony)  consists of a navy gown with embroidered Milton "M," cap, 2017 tassel, and diploma cover. The cap, gown, and tassel will be delivered to students in one package prior to the ceremony. Diploma covers are distributed during the ceremony. For those students who already have the required cap and gown, a package consisting of just the diploma cover and 2017 tassel can be ordered. Graduates who have not ordered and paid for a diploma cover (either as part of the graduation package or separately) prior to the ceremony will have their diplomas held. All orders should be placed online at  www.gabalfour.com  by March 14.

The 2017 MHS graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 8:00PM in the Milton stadium. Tickets are not required. Graduates are allowed an unlimited number of guests. However, seating is on a first come, first served basis. The rain date will be Friday, May 26 at 10:00AM.

School Governance Council Meeting Meeting with Public Comment

The next meeting of the Milton HS School Governance Council is scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 7:10AM in Room 1222 at Milton HS. This meeting will allow for public comment. Speakers may address the Council at the meeting with comments limited to three minutes. CLASS OF 2017 RED ENVELOPESENVELOPES
ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS
Following our wonderful Milton Tradition, we are once again giving relatives, friends, and teachers of our 2017 graduates an extra opportunity to honor our students.

Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, teachers, neighbors, clergy, and friends may send your Senior student a special letter of congratulations on his or her upcoming graduation in May 2017. We will carefully keep these cards and letters for each student and distribute them after the Senior Breakfast. Every Senior will receive a large RED ENVELOPE containing these messages and well wishes. The letters and cards will be kept confidential and are given to the students at the senior breakfast.

You can drop off your cards and letters at the front office in the red box labeled "RED ENVELOPES" or you can mail them to the school using the following address:

  • DO NOT SEND ANYTHING OF VALUE (i.e.: cash, checks, gift cards) we can't be responsible for it
  • If sending several envelopes inside a larger one, PUT THE STUDENT'S FULL NAME ON ALL ENVELOPES
  • Keep letters and cards FLAT. You will be asked to come to school to pick up and items which do not meet the above criteria.

We are now collecting photos for the Class of 2017's end of the year slideshow! Please read the below guidelines and email your two photos before the deadline to insure that you are represented!
Deadline: Friday, March 31, 2017
Each senior may submit TWO recent appropriate photos. We want pictures of every senior, so be sure to submit yours! Individual and group photos are allowed.

You will get an automatic reply when your email is received. In order to ensure your photos are included in the slideshow, please follow these instructions:
File names: Save as "Last Name, First Name 1" and "Last name, first name 2" of the senior(s)
Subject line: In the subject line of the email, please put senior's last name, first name
Group photos: please include names of each person in photo.
File size: Submit actual size or large, high quality photos. Please NO low resolution or small file size pictures. Pictures saved from social media and screen shots of cell phone photos will NOT work. 1 MB and up would be great! Only appropriate photos will be included (appropriate clothing, depictions, etc.).   If you submit inappropriate photos, they will not be used.

Failure to follow above instructions will result in your pictures not being included in the slideshow. Please be certain to pay your senior dues to ensure you receive a DVD at the Senior Breakfast.

EXAM REGISTRATION
The AP Exam Registration opened up at 12:01am, February 3, 2017 and runs through March 9, 2017. Registrations made after 11:59 PM, Thursday, Mar 9, 2017 will incur a $25 late fee per exam. Registration closes at 11:59pm, March 16, 2017. There will a link on the school website under "Students" and on the main page. STUDENT TRANSCRIPTS
Now that all of the grades have been posted from the fall semester, please review your MHS transcript. Please also be sure to check your transcript for any credits that should have transferred from the middle school. If you see any errors regarding classes, credits, grades, honors points, etc. please contact your counselor ASAP.

MOVE ON WHEN READY
Students who are interested in participating in MOWR (Move on When Ready) should review the information at https://mhsmowr.wordpress.com/. This program includes College English classes, Georgia Tech distant math classes, part-time dual enrollment, and full-time dual enrollment. MOWR applications will be available with Dr. Marsh in 1340. The application deadline is March 31; please note that this is a Fulton County deadline, which is earlier than most of the college deadlines. Acceptance to the college or university is required for the MOWR program; admission requirements vary for each college or university. For additional questions please schedule an appointment with your Counselor.

HOPE/ZELL MILLER SCHOLARSHIPS
Are you applying for HOPE or Zell Miller? If so, then we need to have a copy of your Social Security Card on file. If you are unsure if the school has this information on file, please see Ms. Dolores Shamis in suite 1340.

Please note that this is only the first step in HOPE eligibility. In order to apply for HOPE, you may log in to your student's GA Futures account at www.gafutures.org.

Application Procedure:
Students have two options when applying for the HOPE Scholarship:
1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or,
2. Complete the  online GSFAPPS application or  printable paper GSFAPPS application.
Note: The FAFSA must be completed each year. Please be sure to monitor each college/university's deadline for submitting the FAFSA/GSFAPPS application.

JUNIORS: JUNIOR BOOTCAMP is this week, March 6-9, during all lunches and SOAR on Tuesday and Thursday. If you missed your Junior Meeting date, you are still invited and welcome to join us for Junior Boot Camp...it's for every Junior! Please follow the link to sign up for a space. Our wonderful college liaison will be "retiring" at the end of next school year (2018), as her daughter will be graduating. SOFTBALL MEETINGSOFTBALL
A meeting will be held Wednesday, March 8 at 3:45PM in Room 1377 for all girls interested in playing softball next fall. We will discuss tryouts, summer camps and goals for next season. Congratulations to the Varsity Gymnastics Team for ANOTHER 1st Place finish on Friday night! 
 
TRACK & FIELD
Junior Sam Bowers (the current state cross country champion) ran the nation's fastest 5000 meters (3.1 miles) of this outdoor track season & set a new meet & stadium & school record at this past weekend's 10th Annual Milton T&F Showcase meet (1st-15:05.45) to lead the Eagles to a 2nd place combined boys & girls team finish (187 pts) besting 20 schools. Mill Creek was the overall team champions (261.5 pts).

Boys team victories not only came from Bowers but also from a double race winner in junior Michael Malkowski in the 1500 meters (1st-4:10.39) (also a new meet/school/stadium record) & also in the Mile (1st-4:29.26). The lone team victory on the girls side came from the 4x800m relay team (1st-10:29.84) of senior Brooke Aumer, senior Hayden Smith, senior Fernanda Bonilla & freshman Abby Rindt) coming from behind to win the event in dramatic fashion! Many runner-up finishes propelled the girl's team & they came from junior Sophie Moore in the 300m, Aumer in the 1500m & junior Emily Bowers in the 5000m.

Congratulations to the Milton Hockey team for advancing to the 3rd round of the  State Championship Playoffs! They will play this Wednesday night at 8:00PM at the Duluth Ice Forum. Good Luck Boys! Continue to #ReptheM!

Congratulations to all the members of the Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble for earning the highest rating of I (Superior) from all judges in every category at this year's Large Group Performance Evaluations!

ACADEMICS
DEBATE
This weekend members of the Milton High School Varsity Public Forum Debate Team participated in the GFCA Varsity State Championships. In the VPF event, there were 14 other schools represented, as well as 47 team entries. Milton VPF did exceptionally well and three teams placed: Blake Coleman and Anshul Gupta made it to the finals round and are the 2017 GFCA Runner-Ups! Vishal Vardhineedi and Aditya Choudhari made it to octofinals. Zach Haber and Samin Islam made it to octofinals. Speaker points are awarded at the end of each round to each member of a team. The points are totaled at the end of preliminary rounds, and speaker awards are assigned. Out of the 94 individual VPF debaters who participated, Anshul Gupta earned 4th speaker Blake Coleman earned 9th speaker Aditya Choudhari earned 10th speaker.
