Executive Board Meeting Brief
We had a good Executive Board Meeting March 3-4 in Aberdeen, South Dakota.  Below is a summary of decisions made:
  1. We put together a budget worksheet to use in building a 2018 calendar budget.
  2. We gave the Executive Director the authority to sell property and transfer property to a church plant.
  3. We adopted the theme, scripture and goal for Baker Missions Week.
  4. We started the process to appoint a strategic funds task force and renamed a special fund from the sale of our office as the DBC Strategic Funds Task Force.
  5. We heard reports from our Executive Director, state staff and President of our Convention.
  6. Began the evaluation process of the Executive Director/Treasurer
  7. Approved end of year financial reports
  8. Reviewed proposed Constitution and Bylaw changes by the Constitution and Bylaws Committee.
Our thanks to the Executive Board members who were present and for all their work!
Youth Camp

There may still be snow on the ground here in Minot, but it is time to start thinking about youth camp this summer. I want to invite all of our students around the Dakotas to come and join us at Crystal Springs in North Dakota for an exciting and challenging time June 5-9, 2017. Joe Ellyson is going to be the camp pastor this year and Ashton Rone will be leading us in worship.

This summer we are going to be focusing on what Consumes us. Are we consumed by our relationship with God and service in His Kingdom, or do other things crowd in and consume our time and energy? Camp is a great chance to get away from the day to day distractions and allow God to speak into the lives of our students and also the adults who come. Our adults help out in camp by leading breakouts and investing in the lives of the students who come. This year the breakouts will again be a mix of serious and fun times for students to learn and grow in their faith and have a great time doing it.

Camp also has its less serious moments as well and campers get to enjoy the expanding facilities at Crystal Springs. Favorite free time activities include fun at the lake with swimming, the water slide, and tubing. There is also skating and the rock climbing wall, as well as a coffee house where students and leaders can hang out during free time laughing and playing games together. We also make time for some of the traditional camp activities like the s'mores around the campfire with singing and sharing.

I want to say a special thank you to those who pray for camp also. It makes a difference each year in the lives of our students and those who come alongside them as leaders at camp and prayer is a vital part of this ministry. We can see God at work in all things as His people pray. I would like to encourage everyone to make plans to join in the experience this June and for those who cannot be there in person to be praying for us each day, especially during camp week. I look forward to reporting back to all of you on the ways that God moves in our midst this summer.

Cooperative Program Opportunity

Saturday, March 11, I (Garvon) had the opportunity to meet with Restore Church in Yankton, South Dakota.  We had a meal together and then spent 90 minutes talking about how they could be involved in giving to the Cooperative Program; what it means and how to become involved in the DBC, SBC and their local association.  We talked about Cooperative Program and the three special offerings we receive for state, North America and the world.

I appreciate the opportunity that church planter/pastor Jeffrey Mueller gave me to share with the church there.  I am available to do the same for your church as well.  Feel free to contact me by phone (605-716-0130) or email ( [email protected]) and I would be happy to work out a date to meet with your church.
