Wildlife on the Trail
Friday, March 24; 5 - 8 p.m.
For all ages;  $2 per person
Join NCSU Natural Resource students for an afternoon with wildlife!
Meet live reptiles and amphibians and learn about mammals you may encounter while exploring the park. Take a sunset wagon ride to our campsite, roast hot dogs and marshmallows over an open flame then
ride the wagon back to the shelter. Bring a water bottle, dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Space is limited due to the
capacity of the wagon. Only 10 spaces left!
Meet at the Longleaf Shelter.

Sunday, April 2;  12 - 3 p.m.
Free Volunteer Opportunity
  Volunteers are needed to collect trash  along the shoreline
(minumum age is 6)  and along the road (minimum age is 10)
All volunteers must sign the   Wake County Volunteer Release
Volunteers under age 16 must be with an adult . 
Meet at the Park Office for introduction and assignments.

 NC Science Festival - Microscope Discoveries 
Friday, April 7; 4-6 p.m.
For all ages but better suited for ages 6 and up
Free for the NC Science Festival
Explore the fascinating world of tiny things found in nature! In this up-close experience, peer more deeply into pond water and at plants, soil, feathers and more. A variety of microscopes will be available to try!
Meet at the Longleaf Shelter.

Nature Tots - Seasonal Discoveries
Monday, April 10; 10 - 10:30 a.m.
Ages 1-3 years with an adult; $2/child
Discover what is happening in nature each month through stories,
hands on activities, live critters and more.

Kids Discover Nature: Frogs are Fun
Monday, April 10; 11 - noon
Ages 3-7 years with an adult; $4/child
Explore the pond in hopes of catching frogs.  Learn how the grow and why they sing.  Make a froggy craft.

Fishing for Beginners
Saturday, April 15; 10 - noon
Ages 7 - 12; $4/child

 NC Science Festival - The Science of Fire
Thursday, April 20; 3 - 6 p.m.
For ages 16 and up;  Free for the NC Science Festival
Learn how prescribed fires are conducted to manage our Longleaf Pine Forest at Harris Lake County Park.  Equipment, fire safety and the value for wildlife will all be discussed. We will travel by wagon to our Longleaf area and if conditions permit, conduct a demonstration burn in a small contained area. Space is limited in this program. Credit will be given for NCEE Certification.  Meet at the Longleaf Shelter.

Programs at The American Tobacco Trail

Statewide Star Party  on the  American Tobacco Trail
Friday, April 21; 6:30-10:30 p.m.
Free -  all ages and skill levels welcome

 The 2017 Star Party, themed "Star Light, Star Bright" is part of the
NC Science Festival. Enjoy fun, hands-on activities early in the evening.
As the sun goes down, listen to constellation storytelling and observe
the night sky through telescopes and binoculars. Bring your curiosity,
water bottle, chair or blanket, your own viewing instrument if you have one,  and dress for the weather.
Meet at the White Oak Parking Area, 1305 White Oak Church Rd, Apex
Registration is not required for this event.
