Did You Know?

The "delicates" setting on your dryer may be a less energy efficient option because it uses low heat, leading to a longer drying time.

Message From the Executive Director of SBCCOG

There is a touch of Spring in the air and it is certainly reflected in the informative workshops being offered by our partners during March and April.   To name a few, California Friendly Landscape Training Workshops, Rainwater/Greywater Workshops, and Moving toward Zero Waste: Minimizing Your impact on the Environment. Staff is very busy planning ahead for Earth Day Celebrations and all of the events where SBESC staff and volunteers will be exhibiting energy, water and other sustainable programs at the various city and community celebrations. If you are interested in joining us as a volunteer, please contact Martha Segovia 310-371-7222 ext. 209 or martha@southbaycities.org. We do our best to make your time fun and interesting!

Visit the SBESC calendar at www.sbesc.com/calendar to register for upcoming workshops or call the center at 310-371-7222 to put your name on an interest list and mark your calendar to participate in the events.

Understanding Different Washer-Dryer Settings

Ever get confused with all the different settings on a washer/dryer or the laundry jargon on your clothing tags? Knowing the difference between all the settings and making simple changes in the way you use your washer or dryer can actually help save energy, as well as prevent your clothes from getting damaged.

LADWP
City Plants (Free Tree Program)

Continuing its extensive tree planting involvement since 1998, LADWP recently signed an agreement with the Los Angeles City Plants program to fund 40,000 additional trees to be planted throughout the City of Los Angeles over the next two years. City Plants addresses the low tree canopy cover in the City, which averages 21%, well below the national average of 27%. Trees provide energy savings through shading buildings and decreasing ambient temperatures while also removing pollutants from the air, absorbing polluted runoff, providing aesthetic benefits, and more. LADWP's Efficiency Solutions unit will oversee the distribution of trees to maximize energy savings benefits in our communities.

Travel Pal
What is Bikepool?

A bikepool is an arrangement between two or more commuters to share the bicycle ride to work or school. Commonly, the most experienced rider in the group will act as the leader and will help newer riders find the safest route to their destination and ride along for the shared portions of their trip. When you're posting a Bikepool on the TravelPal system, make sure you note whether you are a new bike-commuter or an experienced rider so that you can match up with others easier.  For more information on Frequently Asked Questions see:

The initial report, released in May 2016, showed more than 480,000 L.A. County residents living within a half mile of transportation projects that have opened since 2009: the Expo Line's first phase to Culver City, the Gold Line extensions to East Los Angeles and Azusa and the Orange Line extension to Chatsworth.
