WE ARE ON FOR THIS FRIDAY, March 17!!

St. Luke's Concert Series
Tuesday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. : Organ Recital and Baroque Trumpet with Dr. Steven Plank, organ and Barry Barguess, Baroque Trumpet.  We are fortunate indeed to have such nationally known musicians on our next concert.  Please note the time (Tuesday evening!).  A reception will follow the concert so you can meet the performers and greet one another.

Barry Bauguess is one of North America's most sought-after Baroque trumpet concert and recording artists and is currently Guest Principal Natural Trumpet of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.  He has served as principal trumpet with Apollo's Fire, The Portland Baroque Orchestra, Atlanta Baroque Orchestra, Opera Lafayette, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and the Magnolia Baroque Festival Orchestra.  Mr. Bauguess also frequently appears with other ensembles including Tafelmusic, Folger Consort, Washington Bach Consort, and was a member of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra for fourteen years.

Steven Plank is a member of the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and chairs the Department of Musicology there.  At Oberlin he directs the Collegium Musicum Oberliniense, and was honored with the prestigious Thomas Binkley Award by Early Music America for his work with this ensemble.  A long-time Anglican musician, as well, he is on the staff of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  A trumpeter and cornettist, as well as an organist, Dr. Plank's teachers in early music performance include Edward Tarr, Bruce Dickey, James Tyler, and Trevor Pinnock.  Additionally, he was Organist/Choirmaster for St. Luke's in the early 1970's!

Mission Behind Bars and Beyond
Please join us for an informational meeting in Board Hall on March 26 following the 10:00 Eucharist to learn more about a wonderful outreach opportunity 'Mission Behind Bars and Beyond.' Our guest speaker will be Mr. Dean Bucalos with the 'Mission Behind Bars Ministry.' Please contact Rev. Shelley with any questions.

Rev. Dean W. Bucalos is the executive director of Mission Behind Bars and Beyond, an ecumenical re-entry program that trains small faith-based groups to work with returning citizens upon their release from prison. In addition, he is the founding the pastor of New Life in Christ Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a congregation he began which is inside, Dismas Charities-Diersen, a women's re-entry facility in Louisville, Kentucky. He also serves part-time as the program specialist for prison and ministries for the National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Rev. Bucalos was ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He has served as the pastor of congregations in Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, The University of Kentucky College of Law and Lexington Theological Seminary.   Prior to his ordination, Rev. Bucalos practiced law in Ashland and Lexington, Kentucky. He serves as an adjunct professor at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, where he teaches classes on Christianity and Social Justice. Dean is a trained volunteer facilitator for the Juvenile Justice Pilot Program in Jefferson County, Kentucky, sponsored by Restorative Justice Louisville.
Dean is married to Dr. Anne B. Bucalos, who is the Vice Provost of Faculty Development and Professor in the School of Education at Bellarmine University. Dean and Anne have two adult children who live with their spouses in Louisville, and four grandchildren.

Lenten Soup
On Wednesday, March 29, The Daughters of the King will be providing soup and bread followed with Stations of the Cross led by Fr. Michael.

St. Luke's Annual Silver Tea [DATE CHANGED]
Due to the lack of electricity in the kitchen and uncertainty about when the final hookups to the main will be installed by LG&E, the NEW DATE will be Sunday, April 2, in Board Hall, following the 10:00am service. St. Luke's has hosted the Silver Tea for over 40 years. Donations support Home of the Innocents which provides shelter and care for children who are without support when their families are in trouble. A representative for the Home will speak at the Tea.

This year's Tea reception will feature tea, coffee, wine, etc. and finger foods. Anyone who can donate, please bring finger foods to Board Hall. If you need child care, please contact the church office in advance and we will gladly provide it. Come enjoy the fellowship and participate in outreach.

In 2011, St. Luke's received the Childfriend of the Year award from Home of the Innocents for all the support we have given them over these many years. Let's generously support the Home again this year! Make your checks payable to 'Home of the Innocents'.

Medical Mission Trip
Megan Durham, a member of our choir and a medical student at the University of Louisville, will be going on a medical mission trip to Masaya, Nicaragua this summer with 3 of her colleagues.  They will work in a local hospital for 4 weeks, using what they've learned to improve the health of the local residents, working in the emergency room, surgery, pediatric, and OB/GYN departments of the hospital.  To facilitate their ministry, they need financial contributions to purchase medical supplies from Supplies Over Seas.  Project Latin America is a nonprofit Louisville-based organization that's helping coordinate the funding for Megan's trip.

If you would like to support her work, please consider making a monetary donation.  All donations are tax deductible if made payable to Project Latin America. Please do not write Megan's name anywhere on the check, but please write "Donation" in the memo. 100% of the proceeds will be used to support the medical trip to Nicaragua. And by adding a new dimension to Megan's medical training, this will someday benefit the health of our own community as well.
