WE MADE FRONT PAGE NEWS!

PEACH WEEKENDER: The Toledo Repertoire Theatre to debut 4 original works by Toledo area playwrights.

The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will premiere a series of four new plays beginning this weekend with the debut of "Toledo Voices", a new program featuring works by local playwrights.

"Toledo Voices" will offer staged readings of previously unproduced plays this Saturday, and again Feb. 25 and March 11, on the Rep's 10th Street Stage.

"'Buy Local' should be a maxim that applies to the arts as well as traditional commerce," said Dave DeChistopher, Artistic Director of the Rep, in an email. "It will strengthen the quality of theater in general to do that. And local playwrights, whether they're writing explicitly about our area or not, still bring a sensibility that is familiar and unique.

Toledo City Paper
"Toledo Voices"

The program originally began with Artistic Director Dave DeChristopher who saw a lack of new material in the area. "I am a playwright and to me, the fostering of new work is an integral part of theater. There's not a lot of theater in Toledo that is new work with new playwrights. My hope is to raise awareness and to become a new opportunity."

An intimate performance is set for Saturday, February 18 at 8:00 pm. It's all a fundraiser for the community theater, "The Rep."
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre is in its 84th season.  Each year, the show must go on with support from the community. That's where this upcoming performance at 20 North Gallery comes in.

"We love the Rep, those of us that are singing," adds organizer Vicki Monhollen. "We love the Rep so much and we want it to succeed and it's such a staple in downtown Toledo and we want to see it keep moving forward and keep flourishing. And fundraising is one of the ways that we need to do that."

"Showstoppers: A Toledo Rep Cabaret"

Our Toledo Rep fundraiser Showstoppers: A Toledo Rep Cabaret played to a completely sold out crowd on February 18th at 20 North Gallery in downtown Toledo. The two-hour cabaret style production was accompanied by a silent auction of paintings by local artists.

The evening consisted of performances of classic Broadway show tunes by local talent, including Matt Richardson, Eric Hillenbrand, Macaela Carder Whitaker, Lydia Schafer, Colleen Geftos, Victoria Monhollen, and a special guest performance by 13abc's very own Tony Geftos!

All proceeds benefited the Toledo Repertoire Theatre.

America's most notorious lovers and bank robbers take the country by storm in this sexy and
compelling adventure. A thrilling musical chronicling the lives of the infamous Depression-era
outlaws, their forbidden story told with a score combining blues, gospel and rockabilly music. Nominated for two Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards and five Drama Desk Awards, including Best New Musical, this Northwest Ohio stage premiere is a must-see.

"Farlowe's Mystery Theatre Hour" is in rehearsal for its weekly radio show when an alarming announcement comes over the radio: Martians have landed! The actors fly into hysterics, barricading themselves in the studio, not expecting to live to see the next day. Passions ignite, secret identities are revealed, and slapstick mayhem ensues when a washedup director, his drama queen ex, a wannabe war hero, a ditzy actress, and a German sound effects wiz all think they are about to be annihilated by men from Mars. Winner of the 2009 Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award, and nominee for the Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association Award.

Human Error
by Eric Pfeffinger
(Special Event)
November 17, 18 (two shows) & 19, 2017

A world premiere production by local playwright Eric Pfeffinger. This contemporary comedy-set right here in Toledo, Ohio-is full of warmth, heart, and outrageous humor. Through a medical mix-up, two couples (one red state-ish, the other blue) meet and have a kind of cultural exchange, reminding themselves, and the audience, that while much divides us, there is a large territory of common ground. Winner of the 2016 Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence.

A Christmas Carol
by Charles Dickens, revised by David Jex and Debra Ross Calabrese
December 1, 2 & 3, 2017

A Toledo Rep tradition for more than 30 years, this timeless tale of redemption follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he is transformed by the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future from a miserly old curmudgeon into a man who embodies the true meaning of Christmas. With lavish costumes, spectacular sets and a musical score rich with carols of the era, this production is one you will not want to miss!

Ripcord
by David Lindsay-Abaire
January 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 & 28. 2018

A biting new comedy from Pulitzer Prize-winning author David LindsayAbaire. The sunny room on an upper floor is prime real estate in the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, so when the cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn, she has no choice but to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the old women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden.

Photograph 51
by Anna Ziegler
March 9, 10, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24 & 25, 2018

A moving portrait of British scientist Rosalind Franklin, one of the great female scientists of the twentieth century, and her fervid drive and often overlooked role in the discovery of DNA's double helix structure. This complex tale explores how a group of chemists and biologists raced to map the molecular structure of our genetic code, revealing the unsung achievements of this trail-blazing, fiercely independent woman. Winner of the 2016 WhatsOnStage Award, Photograph 51 is a fascinating play about science, ambition, isolation, the unique challenges of a woman operating in a field dominated by men, and the race for greatness.

Sweet Charity
by Neil Simon, Cy Coleman, & Dorothy Fields
June 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 & 17, 2018

Have you ever known a girl who wanted something so badly that she tried too hard to get it? Meet Sweet Charity, who sings, dances, laughs and cries her way through romances. Her world is the all too real world of Times Square, and the people who pass through are as deceptively charming a group as ever swept across any stage. With a book by the king of comedy Neil Simon, this five-time Tony Award winner includes the iconic musical numbers "Big Spender", "If My Friends Could See Me Now", and "I'm a Brass Band".

SEASON BONUS!

Winner of three Tony Awards in 2011 and the basis of an Emmy Award-winning HBO film adaptation in 2014.

The Children's Hour
by Lillian Hellman
April 13 & 14, 2018

Hellman's trailblazing 1934 drama is set in an all-girls boarding school run by two best friends, Karen and Martha. When a vindictive student starts a rumor that the two women are lovers, local tongues wag and the truth becomes murkier. The accusation proceeds to destroy the women's careers, relationships and lives.

The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told
by Paul Rudnick
April 20 & 21, 2018

Rudnick's audacious 1998 comedy tells the story of Adam and Steve, as well as Jane and Mabel (the first Lesbians), from the Old Testament to modern-day Manhattan. A no-holds-barred comedy that skewers both religious hypocrisy and political correctness.
