As we look ahead to our big, brash, boisterous June musical,
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,
and to a summer of exciting classes and productions for children, we're also looking back at some recent successes that I'm proud to share.
We were recently voted "Best of Toledo" and couldn't be happier about it. I hope this honor reflects your approval of our expanded programming: Improv classes for Adults; a wider spectrum of educational opportunities for children; our recent sold-out cabaret evening, Showstoppers, the first in a series of gala fundraising evenings featuring our vast musical talent; a new exciting program called "Toledo Voices," aimed at helping local playwrights; and much more.

Go behind the curtain and into the lighting booth to discover how all the production elements of a show are devised and put together. Students will learn a bit about set design, sound, lighting, prop-building, and stage management. This workshop serves as a terrific foundation for further work on actual productions.
Workshop Synopsis:
Day 1 will focus on learning the operational elements of technical theatre, including working with tools on a set, operating light and sound, and stage management.
Day 2 will focus on design in technical theater. Having a basic knowledge of how to run a production from the first day, students will now learn how to apply those skills creatively through set design, light design, and sound design.
Classes are held Saturday mornings at the 10th Street Theatre, starting promptly at
9:00 am and finishing at noon.
Parents please drop off and pick up on time.

Meghan graduated from BGSU in 2010 with a specialization in technical theater. She is the Technical Director at the Toledo School for the Arts. Most recently her creative and technical skills were seen on display in the imaginative set of TSA's production of

In this session you will gain an understanding of technique, theory and the foundational components of live theatrical performance. Just a few of the many topics to be covered: acting, singing, dancing, stage combat, costume and set design, makeup, lighting and sound, prop-building, and stage management.
There is no showcase for this session.

About the Instructor: Alison Koch (lead instructor)
Alison has a B.A in Theatre Arts from the University of the Pacific. Ever since the age of eleven, she has been performing in plays and musicals. Alison's theatre teaching experience consists of summer acting camps, after school drama classes, and beginning dance. She is very excited to teach her very first session at the Toledo Rep!

Three three-hour classes will cover the fundamentals of playwriting - character, setting, conflict, plots, stakes, etc. - with ample time for students to write and share works-in-progress. During the fourth and final session, students will have a chance to work with adult actors interpreting their works and then hear their plays presented in a public reading.

About the Instructor: Dave DeChristopher
Dave is an an actor, director, teacher, playwright with nine published plays, and author of
The Force, a series of spy novels. Before leaving for New York City in 1980 to establish his career in professional theater, the Toledo native, a 1971 graduate of St. John's Jesuit High School who earned a degree from Washington & Lee University, spent the late 1970s in Toledo, teaching and directing.
During his 24 years in New York, his career included being a company member and later artistic director of the Greenwood Theater Company, a theatre-in-education company, and a member of the resident acting company of the Castillo Theatre. He toured the United States and Israel as a member of the Jewish Repertory Theatre for Young Audiences and performed in regional and stock theater.
He is a member of Actors' Equity Association and the Dramatists Guild. Dave is the current Artistic Director at the Toledo Repertoire Theatre
and teaches the International Baccalaureate theater curriculum and creative writing at Notre Dame Academy, where he also is the assistant speech coach.

Kay 'Morgana' Costales-Swift
Kay 'Morgana' Costales-Swift, a recent
'Volunteer of the Year' nominee,
started her volunteer work at the Toledo Rep as an usher for
Young Frankenstein in June 2014
. She has since worked as backstage crew, prop builder, set construction assistant, stage manager, and actress - learning and renewing an interest in theater along the way.
Morgana is a beloved volunteer at the Rep. She is always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear whenever the need should arise. She has volunteered in every form imaginable - from usher to box office assistant and play reading committee member - she has even donated pieces of jewelry for our Mother's Day raffle and our yearly Scrooge's Favorite Things Fundraiser.
She is a great treasure to our theatre and we are unbelievably lucky to have her as part of our Rep family!

Those wishing to serve should have a vested interest in the Toledo Rep and its continuation as a vital part of the cultural fabric of our community. The responsibilities for Board and Committee members are different. Due to bylaw guidelines, we have a limited number of Board seats. However, we have many more Committee positions available. If you should have an interest in either area, please complete the online form.

Education is one of the central aspects of our mission here at the Toledo Rep and we are always looking for new instructors to include in our program. If you have any interest in being a part of our education program, please let us know! A background in teaching is desired, although not necessarily required. We are looking for people experienced in one or more of the many aspects of theatre, with a passion and desire to share those experiences and skills with others. Our program includes classes, workshops and camps for children, teens and adults.

PEACH WEEKENDER: The Toledo Repertoire Theatre to debut 4 original works by Toledo area playwrights.
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre will premiere a series of four new plays beginning this weekend with the debut of "Toledo Voices", a new program featuring works by local playwrights.
"Toledo Voices" will offer staged readings of previously unproduced plays this Saturday, and again Feb. 25 and March 11, on the Rep's 10th Street Stage.
"'Buy Local' should be a maxim that applies to the arts as well as traditional commerce," said Dave DeChistopher, Artistic Director of the Rep, in an email. "It will strengthen the quality of theater in general to do that. And local playwrights, whether they're writing explicitly about our area or not, still bring a sensibility that is familiar and unique.

"I am a playwright and to me, the fostering of new work is an integral part of theater. There's not a lot of theater in Toledo that is new work with new playwrights. An intimate performance is set for Saturday, February 18 at 8:00 pm. It's all a fundraiser for the community theater, "The Rep."
The Toledo Repertoire Theatre is in its 84th season.
Each year, the show must go on with support from the community. That's where this upcoming performance at 20 North Gallery comes in.
"We love the Rep, those of us that are singing," adds organizer Vicki Monhollen. "We love the Rep so much and we want it to succeed and it's such a staple in downtown Toledo and we want to see it keep moving forward and keep flourishing. And fundraising is one of the ways that we need to do that."

Our Toledo Rep fundraiser Showstoppers: A Toledo Rep Cabaret played to a completely sold out crowd on February 18th at 20 North Gallery in downtown Toledo. The two-hour cabaret style production was accompanied by a silent auction of paintings by local artists.
The evening consisted of performances of classic Broadway show tunes by local talent, including Matt Richardson, Eric Hillenbrand, Macaela Carder Whitaker, Lydia Schafer, Colleen Geftos, Victoria Monhollen, and a special guest performance by 13abc's very own Tony Geftos!
All proceeds benefited the Toledo Repertoire Theatre.
