Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day was celebrated on Wednesday, February 1 and Thursday, February 2. Both days started with breakfast in the Union, which included the famous EDW "Legacy Biscuits" and gave grandparents a chance to mingle with friends. Following breakfast, grandparents then attended a special assembly that included updates on what's happening around campus, a special grandparent video presentation, and a performance by the EDW Jazz band. After the assembly, students took their grandparents on a tour around campus. Along the route, faculty and staff members had photo stations set up where they took pictures to capture the day.

Prayer Breakfast
The Cardinal Prayer Breakfast hosted by the Alumni Association was held February 10 at Grady V's Restaurant with Rickey Broussard as the speaker.
The annual breakfast is to set aside time for the E. D. White Catholic family to visit with one another and to appreciate the importance of our faith life. Tradition and prayer are deeply embedded in the mission of the Sisters of Mount Carmel and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, and the Alumni Association strives to keep this spirit alive by hosting the event each year.
Broussard is a native of Vermilion Parish. He attended Meaux High School and was an All-State Basketball player and Valedictorian of his graduating senior class. He played on the 1962 Abbeville Babe Ruth State Championship team, starting at shortstop and 2nd base on the University of Southwestern Louisiana baseball team for four years. He got his B.S., M.Ed., and +30 all from USL.

Baseball Reunion
E. D. White baseball began in the Spring of 1967. The Cardinals called the old Stark Field home for eight seasons, before moving in 1975 into the present day E. D. White Baseball Field.
In the sixties and seventies, the Cardinals won four straight district championships from 1969 to 1972, as well as the 1974 state championship, all under then head coach Edmond Gros. George Baracco coached the Cardinals in 1976. Billy Chapman took over in 1977, before giving way to Boyd Hebert, who remained in that position for the following 22 years, from 1978 to 2000.
Under the continued leadership of Coach Boyd Hebert, the eighties and nineties saw the program win five district championships in 1980, 1987, 1997, 1998 and 1999, back-to-back state runner-up titles in 1987 and 1988, as well as the first two of four consecutive state championship titles in 1998 and 1999.
The E.D. White Baseball team continued their dominance into the 2000s and 2010s, as the Cardinals won district championships in 2001, 2004, 2006, and nine straight championships from 2008 to 2016. E. D. White captured their final two state championships in 2000, (Coach Hebert's last season at the helm of the program) and again in 2001. (John Pere's lone season as head coach). The Cardinals won a state runner-up title in 2013. Head coaches during the 2000s and 2010s were Boyd Hebert (2000), John Pere (2001), Kyle Lasseigne (2002 to 2004), Chad Blanchard (2005), Lance Ford (2006 to 2008) and current head coach Shane Trosclair (2009 to present).

Boyd Hebert Park Dedication
Boyd Hebert, Jr. is pictured with his wife Sylvia, his son Geoffrey, his son Boyd "Trey" Hebert, III, his daughter-in-law Caroline, and his grandson Boyd "Joseph" Hebert IV on February 25 for the ribbon cutting ceremony dedication and naming of the "Boyd Hebert Park."
After graduating from college, Boyd Hebert began working at his alma mater in 1977. During his years at E.D. White, Hebert taught geometry, was assistant football coach, head baseball coach, and Advancement Director. As Advancement Director, Hebert started and chaired the Card Draft, which raised over $700,000 in 8 years for the athletic department. He was instrumental in starting the annual alumni softball tournament and the Cardinal Greats program. Hebert raised money for the construction of the LeJeune Gym and was instrumental in raising the money to build Perè Menard Hall. In the past two years, Hebert has helped raise over $2 million for the Jeanette Labat Science Corridor, the Giardina Academic Enhancement Center, a new training room and the renovations to the baseball park. In December of 2016, Boyd Hebert, Jr. was inducted into the E.D. White Hall of Fame.
As head baseball coach at E. D. White, Hebert's teams won six district championships, 13 bi-district championships, nine teams reached the state quarterfinals, seven teams reached the semi-finals, earned two state runner-up titles, and three consecutive state championships.

Teacher Highlight
This is Brandi Authement's 4th year teaching at EDW. She currently teaches Intro-Algebra and Skills Math and is moderator of National Honor Society and the Senior Class.
Authement completed her undergraduate studies at Nicholls State University with a BS in Accounting.
"In 2008, I decided that the accounting field was not for me so I started teaching which required me to attend night classes at Nicholls State University to obtain my teaching license and I obtained Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University," she said.
She is currently attending WGU to obtain a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership.
Authement said, "Teaching has been the most challenging and rewarding career experience I have ever had. The first time that I walked through the doors at EDW, I felt like I was finally home. Edward Douglas White Catholic High School has given me and so many others the ability to do what we love and most importantly allow us to express our Catholic faith with fellow teachers and the students. It is a privilege to work at a school that focuses on the entire student and not just academic success. I look forward to many more years at EDW."
