Dear Friends,
In preparation for our upcoming re-accreditation by the New England Association of School and Colleges I asked our teachers to write their philosophy of education. This is their feelings of how teachers should teach and students should learn.
The goal was to find our common approach to education and ensure that we are living our mission everyday. The word cloud image below was created from the responses written by our teachers. The word cloud is created by typing the teachers responses into the generator. The program then creates the image with the most frequently used words as the largest.
As you can see our education philosophy is centered around your children. We work everyday to better serve all of our students and to help them reach their full potential. As we continue to work through this accreditation process we will call upon you, our families and alumni to provide your input to measure our success at achieving these goals.
The purpose of this process will be to celebrate and encourage our strengths and identify and build on our areas in need of improvement. The end result will be an even better school for years to come.

Jump Rope for Heart Fundraising Goal Smashed
Assumption Donates $1900 to the American Heart Association
Congratulations Assumption Catholic school students and families for raising $1900 for the American Heart Association in honor of our heart heroes, Julia and Maeve!
On Tuesday, February 28th we took the last day of Heart month to have our Jump-a-thon. Students in all classes had a one hour Jump-a-thon. The Jump-a-thon included regular jump roping, tricks, hopscotch, double Dutch, long jump rope, standing long jump and more! We had competitions for the longest standing jump and the most jumps over the long jump rope. Here are our top jumpers!

Many thanks are in order! Thank you to everyone who raised money for this worthy cause. An extra special thank you to 2nd grader Juliet Philipp for raising $290, the most in our school. Great job to Julia Basseto and Maeve Arnold and family, our own heart heroes, for sharing their stories and inspiring us to help others! Thank you, Ms. Navarro, for collecting the money and envelopes from the students and teachers. Thank you to Susan McGrath, our local Heart Association Rep, for giving a great kick off assembly in early February. Thank you to the 8th graders for helping the preschoolers with their jumping activities. Thank you teachers; Mrs. Gremse, Mrs. DeFelice, Mrs. Yoney and Mrs. Gourley for helping at the Jump-a-thon.
A very special thank you to Mrs. Ferullo for all of her hard work in organizing this fantastic event, and showing our students how to stay healthy and help others in our community to so the same.

This week CRS Rice Bowl invites us to encounter Megha and Raj Singh and their family in India. Catholic Relief Services is working with them to ensure that they have the tools and knowledge they need to continue putting food on their family's table even during storms.

Arrival and Dismissal Parking Lot Procedures
Simple Guidelines to Keep Everyone Safe
Morning Arrival
- When dropping a student before 8:20 am please use the art room doors near the playground.
- All families are encouraged to pull ahead to the flagpole in front of the school when dropping a student at the curb.
- If you choose to park in the lot, please walk your child through the lot and to the curb.
- Do not pass stopped cars at the curb that are dropping students.
Afternoon
Dismissal
New cones and signs will be in place this week. Please abide by the traffic patterns and procedures for a safe and expedited dismissal process.
No cars should be moving through the parking lot after 3:oo pm!
Enter the parking lot through the driveway between the Church and the hall. Drive down toward the school, turn left and park in the designated area facing the church.
Pre K Pick-Up
- Park in the area behind the rectory garage and close to the school between 2:45 pm and 3:00 pm. Enter the school to retrieve your child and exit the parking lot before 3:00 pm.
- Pre K students will be held by their teachers in the Pre K room until 3:15 pm. After that time they will be delivered to the After School Room to be picked up.
- If picking up a Pre K and older student, follow the K-8 procedure.
K-8 Pick -Up
- Park in the large coned in parking area, facing the church.
- Wait for your student on the sidewalk or grass, not in the parking lot or driveway area.
- Students will be walked out of the building and line up on the sidewalk with their teachers. Please walk over to your child, make contact with the teacher and walk your child back to the car.
- Once all students are safely in cars the cones will be lifted and cars can exit in an orderly fashion.
This process only takes 10 - 15 minutes if the procedure is followed correctly. If you have an urgent need to get back to work or expedite this process please contact Mr. Santoli to make other arrangements.
The safety of our students and staff is paramount, following this procedure will ensure that safety.

2017-18 Bishop Scholarship Fund Applications
BSF Application Process is Ongoing
All families should have received a registration packet for next year. Included in that packet was the application for the Bishop's Scholarship Fund.
Any family seeking financial assistance of any kind must complete the paper application and the online FACTS financial needs assessment to be considered for financial assistance in 2017-2018.
Financial assistance is granted on a yearly basis.
No BSF application can be submitted for consideration without a signature from the school principal certifying that the students have been accepted and enrolled at the school and the $200 fee has been paid.
The deadline for the BSF application is April 1. Notification of awards will begin on April 15. Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received.
Assumption will host a financial assistance night to help with the application process later in February.

Uniform and
Spirit Wear
Clarification
Items Purchased Through Dennis Uniform can be Worn During the School Day
The official school uniform is outlined on our website, click here for a link to the uniform section of the homepage. Below are some guidelines to remind you of the uniform expectations.
Sweatshirts
Only the 8th grade has permission to wear hooded sweatshirts as part of the official uniform.
All other students may wear their spirit wear sweatshirts to school, but they will be asked to take them off during the school day. There are several options available through Dennis Uniform if your child is cold in the traditional uniform during the day.
On dress uniform days girls can wear the cardigan sweater and boys can wear the sweater or sweater vest over their shirt and tie. Both boys and girls can wear the long sleeve or fleece vest throughout the day.
Shoes and Sneakers
Casual shoes such as loafers, boat shoes, Mary Janes, or lace up dress shoes are to be worn on dress uniform days. Boots or sneakers are not acceptable!
Modest sneakers are to be worn on gym days. Sneakers should be of a solid color, preferably black, white, blue, or gray. Bright, flashy, neon, or light up sneakers are not permitted.
Gym Uniform
During the colder months students must wear the sweatpants for gym days. Stunts should also wear the gray gym shirt with the logo on gym days. Should they choose to wear the gray sweatshirt, the official tee shirt should be work underneath.
The tie dyed spirit wear shirt is not acceptable for gym days. Only the pink breast cancer shirt may be worn as an alternative to the official gray tee shirt.
Spirit Wear
Spirit wear can be ONLY worn to school with an official dress down pass or on designated Spirit Wear Days.
Please make every effort to acquire the proper uniforms through Dennis Uniform or the school uniform store. Contact the HSA at [email protected] to inquire about uniform store access.

Virtus Registration and Training
All Adult volunteers must be Virtus Trained
To register with Virtus and be eligible to volunteer, coach, or chaperone in school or at a school sponsored event you must register with Virtus, complete a training and agree to a background check.
