K-State Alerts test scheduled for March 28
 K-State Alerts will test the university's emergency notification system on Tuesday, March 28. The test will include text messaging and automated phone calls for those who have signed up for K-State Alerts. You can also modify settings to receive alerts for a desired campus.
The test will also include an email to all K-State accounts, notifications on the university's home page and alert beacons in various buildings. The wall-mounted alert beacons will emit a loud siren, flash strobe lights and provide digital scrolling text for two minutes. They cannot be turned off during the test.
K-State Alerts is the university's primary messaging system for timely emergency notifications. The university uses K-State Alerts when a dangerous condition exists on any of the three campuses, such as an active shooter, tornado, snow day or other dangerous weather condition that may close the campus.
While multiple K-State sources may provide important messages and safety information, K-State Alerts is more immediate.
Kansas State University's primary concern is the health and safety of the university community.

Kansas State Polytechnic hosts aviation safety practices event on March 31
From advice on mastering an aircraft to insight into upset recovery, the Polytechnic Campus will be hosting an aviation seminar focused on strengthening flight safety within the industry.
Wildcat Safety Stand Down will be 4-8:30 p.m. Friday, March 31, in the College Center Conference Room and will feature presentations from four industry experts with a variety of backgrounds and proficiencies. Initiated by the campus's nationally recognized flight team, this half-day seminar is designed for aviation professionals and general aviation enthusiasts to gain enhanced awareness and knowledge of safety practices while networking with each other and learning more about the aviation program at Kansas State Polytechnic.
During Wildcat Safety Stand Down, participants will experience four safety sessions covering a variety of different areas: Tom Turner, executive director of the Air Safety Foundation at the American Bonanza Society will present on mastering your aircraft; Seth Short, an aviator in the U.S. Navy and 2005 alumnus of Kansas State Polytechnic's professional pilot program, will speak about safety culture in the military; John "Dusty" Dowd, owner of Syracuse Flying Service and an air race pilot, will discuss safety from an agricultural and air race perspective; and Troy Brockway, professor of aviation at Kansas State Polytechnic, will present on implementing a safety management system in a collegiate or training environment and upset recovery.

Microsoft Licensing Error Messages:
Users often see messages indicating that product activation has failed, and that a product key is needed, or that Microsoft Office cannot verify the licenses for the product. The messages often warn that your software "may be counterfeit," or "is not genuine".
In nearly all cases, these issues can be fixed by simply rebooting the computer to allow Microsoft updates to take effect.
Manage Your Inbox With Clutter:
The Office 365 Clutter feature helps you by filtering low-priority emails into the Clutter folder, saving time for your most important messages. This is separate from the Junk Email folder. You can teach Clutter to be more effective as you use it. If you see a low-priority email in your inbox, drag the email into the Clutter folder. If you see a message that was sent to Clutter by mistake, drag the email into your Inbox. Clutter can be turned on and off at any time.

Greg Stephens encourages community discussion on safety, justice and reducing violence
Associate professor Greg Stephens is helping the city of Salina to shine a light on curtailing crime in the community. As a co-coordinator of TALK Salina, he helped to organize a March 8 event titled, "Safety and Justice: How Should Communities Reduce Violence?".
Stephens said the goal of the discussion was to encourage participation through public deliberation in small groups, empowering community members to come up with solutions to national problems at a local event.
More than 50 people were in attendance, and the event featured community speakers who were able to share their own perspectives on local safety and the issue of violence in the community.

I would like to send a high-five to Nicholas Ramirez and Christian Coker, who have been elected as the campus's 2017-2018 Student Governing Association president and vice president! You are taking on an honorable responsibility and your service should be applauded. I look forward to hearing your ideas and working together with you on various events in the future.
President Ramirez and Vice President Coker, along with the rest of the newly elected Senate, will assume office during the Tuesday, March 28 SGA meeting at 8:30 p.m. in the College Center Conference Room.
I would also like to send a friendly reminder that Senator spots are open in arts, science & business, aviation, and the ICAP programs. There are 13 Senator spots that are open, so I encourage students in those programs to attend SGA meetings and get involved.

Study Abroad Scholarships:
Ever think of studying abroad but don't think you can afford it? Check into the Gilman scholarship. K-State Polytechnic has had students study abroad with the assistance of this scholarship. The deadline is March 7 for Summer or Fall programs abroad, and October 2 for Spring programs abroad.
