Need to stand apart from the crowd and take your arboricultural career to the next level? If so, then the ISA-Texas Master Series' "Lone Star Tree Appraisal Workshop" might be for you!
Two of ISAT's own experts will offer insights into what actually works in Texas courts. Todd Watson, Ph.D./BCMA, and Greg David, RCA/BCMA, will team-up to "shoot from the hip" about authentic, Texas-sized, tried-and-true tree appraisal techniques.
From simple "car versus tree" insurance incidents, through oil and gas surface damage claims, complex herbicide drift cases, and encroachment & wrongful removal cases, Watson and David will steer you through the appraisal techniques that make sense in Texas.
We'll talk theory and methodology in the morning, and actual case reviews and scenarios in the afternoon. Of particular interest will be an inside look at two recent precedent-setting appellate and Texas Supreme Court cases related to tree appraisal.
While the Lone Star Tree Appraisal Workshop will be of great interest to anyone providing tree appraisal and valuation services in Texas, a working knowledge of the concepts covered in the 9th Edition of the Guide for Plant Appraisal is highly recommended.

Oak Wilt Qualification Course
Oak Wilt Certification is now a Qualification
May 10-11 in Austin
June 29-30 in Fredericksburg
Join the Texas A&M Forest Service and the Texas Chapter ISA for the Oak Wilt Qualification Course and Assessment. This two-day workshop is for ISA Certified Arborists and will show you how to identify and manage oak wilt in Texas.
Each participant that successfully completes the course and passes the assessment will receive the status of Oak Wilt Qualified. Their qualification will be noted on the Texas Oak Wilt website as well as on any handout and other materials referencing qualified individuals. Dr. David Appel, Texas A&M and Robert Edmonson, Texas A&M Forest Service will be conducting the training.

TRAQ is an ISA qualification program that trains arborists how to use the methodologies outlined in the ISA Best Management Practices for Tree Risk Assessment. This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk. The results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with the information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits, health, and longevity.

Mark your calendars now for this years contest and pre-climb workshop. Winner of this year's competition will represent the Texas Chapter in the International Tree Climbing Contest. This is the best event of the year for a working climber to attend if you want to improve your skills.

Tree Sculpture Tour?
History and Art Combined in Galveston
On September 13th, 2008, Hurricane Ike covered most of the Island in a tidal surge. The damaging combination of powerful wind and waves immediately uprooted many trees, but ultimately the salty storm waters led to the demise of the thousands of others. Ike forced Galveston to say a sad goodbye to so much of its beautiful tree canopy.
Months later sculpture artists breathed second life into something Mother Nature attempted to destroy. Whimsical sculptures have replaced the majestic oaks that once lined many neighborhood streets and shaded homes. Tucked into gardens and nestled in side yards the sculptures are there for the public to enjoy.
