"Manners are a sensitive awareness to the feelings of others.
If you have that awareness, it doesn't matter what fork you use."

Greetings!

    THE JOB INTERVIEW CHECKLIST

The Pre-Interview Checklist
For those seeking a new job the interview is a high stakes appointment and it's important to do everything you can to impress the interviewer. When the pressure is on, it can be easy to miss minor (and sometimes major) details - forget your resume, show up at the wrong appointment time, mispronounce the interviewer's name. Here's a checklist to help you make it out the door and to your interview with confidence:

You, Your Person:
  • Your hair is neat
  • Your teeth are brushed
  • Your nails are clean
  • Your clothes are pressed and stain-free (coffee, toothpaste, no runs in stockings or tights...)
  • Your shoes are clean and shiny, or scuff-free
  • You have removed any extra piercings or covered tattoos if necessary for the job and industry you are applying for.

Where you're going and what you'll need:

  • Clean copies of your resume, references, and personal information cards
  • Double check the date and time of the appointment based on your last communication with the company
  • Address and phone number of the place you're going to
  • Contact information of the person who is interviewing you
  • Directions, and timing for getting to the interview
  • Names of everyone who will interview you, and how to pronounce them
  • Notebook and pen
  • Remove bulky items from pockets and purses or bags and briefcases
  • Check the weather - will you need a raincoat, umbrella, is your coat in good condition?
  • For women: if you wear makeup, what do you need for touch ups? Do you need an extra pair of pantyhose or tights just in case?
  • For men: check that your fly is up and your tie is straight.

One final reminder: Shut your cell phone off. Do it outside the building before you even enter.

It's also not a bad idea to double check your online presence, just to be sure nothing has popped up recently that you weren't aware of. A quick Google search will be helpful. You may not have time to take any newly posted material down, but at least you'll be aware of it and prepared to address it.

Prepare yourself, prepare your materials, arrive on time, and good luck!
