After a busy week in Washington, the Senate has passed its version of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) on September 15th after a vote of 94-3. The House is scheduled to consider their version of WRDA next week but it will not be without some differences to the Senate bill.
Currently, the House bill does not include provisions such as the Senate's language that provides financial aid for drinking water and water systems efforts such as those included in the Senate bill. However, these and other differences could be addressed in a potential conference committee between the two chambers this fall. Furthermore, House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (PA) hopes to have a finalized WRDA bill sent to the President before the end of this year. Additionally,
it is expected that both the House and the Senate will look to pass continuing resolutions to keep the government funded past September 30th, the end of the fiscal year.
