Upcoming TDPS Auditions
Auditions for Fall Performance Classes
March 27-31

The performance faculty will hold auditions and interviews for the following performance classes next week: THET310, THET324, THET362, THET411, THET425, and THET452.

For all interviews and auditions, students should bring a current résumé and photo. For auditions, students should sign-up for a time slot on the 3rd floor call board across from Schoenbaum (3732) and arrive in comfortable clothing, but please no flip flops. For interviews, students should sign up for a 10 minute slot.

Auditions for Fall Productions
April 3 from 6-9pm & April 4 from 4-7pm
Cafritz Foundation Theatre

For the Fall 2017 semester, TDPS will be hosting a first round of auditions for both shows, Antigone (directed by Lisa Nathans) and Love and Information (directed by Jennifer L. Nelson) . Students will have the opportunity to strut their stuff for a panel of faculty members – including Jennifer Barclay, Leslie Felbain, Lisa Nathans, and Scot Reese.

Interested students should prepare one 90-second contemporary monologue and, if auditioning for Antigone, an additional 30-60 second song, poem, or classical monologue.

ACDA Conference at UMD TDPS
From March 8 to 11, TDPS hosted the Mid-Atlantic North regional conference for the American College Dance Association (ACDA). Attendees participated in master classes, scholarly talks, concerts, and feedback sessions.

Dr. Bruce McConachie visits TDPS Performance Studies seminar
Dr. Bruce McConachie (Professor Emeritus at University of Pittsburgh) visited Dr. Laurie Frederik's Performance Studies graduate seminar last week. Dr. McConachie is a leading theatre history scholar who also writes about cognitive science and theatre.

Casting Workshop with Lindsey Kasabian

FREE EVENT!

Join  Lindsey Kasabian (BA Theatre ’03) for a workshop about casting and entering the professional job market in New York City and Los Angeles. She will offer a brief lecture about her theatre experience at UMD and her decision not to pursue professional acting, but instead find alternative routes to remain the industry. She will offer advice on networking and finding job opportunities in NYC and LA, and she will break down the intricacies of navigating the television business. In particular, she will focus on the casting process and will invite students to participate in a mock casting session. The workshop will also provide students with an opportunity to ask questions and discuss. Check out the flyer .

CLOVE Devising Workshop with Paige Hernandez
April 9 from 1-5pm
Dance Studio 2

Join director  Paige Hernandez (BA Theatre '02) in generating material and ideas for the Spring 2018 production of  CLOVE!
 
The workshop will be part discussion, part writing, part ensemble-building, with the goal of creating and enhancing content for  CLOVE. The process will be insightful to actors who wish to audition and perform in the piece.
 
All ages, races, and artistic backgrounds are encouraged. In order to convey a fresh, organic, and relatable experience, the piece will feature multiple disciplines, including theatre, dance, hip hop, spoken word, and more. 

Essence Work with Shana Cooper
of Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company

All interested TDPS directors, actors, designers and theatre-makers are invited to take part in a 3-day intensive Essence Work workshop with  Shana Cooper, nationally renowned director and  Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company ensemble member.

Essence Work challenges directors, actors, and designers to work together to create non-verbal performances that explode the physical, visual, and aural landscapes of a play, facilitating new forms of theatrical expression.  Learn More .

  • The 2017 DC Theatre Technician Cattle Call will be held on Sunday, April 9 and Monday, April 10 at Sidney Harman Hall from 9am to 6pm.   • Apply for the Wingspace Professional Mentorship Program for early career designers!  This free, one-year professional development program offers opportunities in direction, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, sound design and projection design.   • The Maryland International Film Festival held in Hagerstown is offering acting workshops with “Walking Dead” actress Ann Mahoney. The classes will be held in Hagerstown on March 30th between 6pm - 9 pm and the cost of the class is $40. More information, check out the flyer

He is offering a headshot deal for $100, or if any student would like to take charge and organize a day of shooting with 10 or more students, he will shoot their headshot for free.
