The Bible and Protest
Mondays, March 6-20, 7:30 p.m.
Historic Germantown Mennonite Meeting House
6133 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144

During this season of marches, protests and political turmoil what role does the church play and how do we speak from our biblical roots to the current situation?  The Rev. Amy Yoder McGloughlin from Germantown Mennonite and the Rev. Jarrett Kerbel will offer a three-session class - The Bible and Protest - to explore these very questions.

We will look at various types of activism. Is faithful witness as important as effectiveness? What does it mean to be "prophetic?" How do we remain spiritually grounded while we do the strenuous work of resistance? How do we explain ourselves - or "give an account of the faith that is in us" - as we work in broad-based coalitions of people from all types of backgrounds?

Schedule time with a brother of the order for spiritual direction. Did we mention that the food is fabulous? Scholarships are available, so please never let expense be a barrier! Email Rev. Kerbel at [email protected]. Carpools can also be arranged.
Lenten Daily Prayer
This year St. Martin-in-the-Fields is inviting everyone to participate in an all-parish Lenten daily praying of the Lord's Prayer at 12 noon. The Lord's Prayer is one we all know, but many of us don't think much about what we are saying when we say it every Sunday. Saying it every day will give us the opportunity to consider the power of this prayer. Knowing our fellow parishioners are praying with us, even if we are not together is a great unifier in these difficult times.

Reconciliation
During this penitential season, you may wish to meet with one of the clergy for reconciliation. If you wish to receive this, please contact one of the clergy.

During the first 100 days of the new national administration, POWER is inviting its congregations to participate in a series of trainings that will help build our skills of democratic action in an effort to shape our civic life to match our values. Contact Carol Duncan or Anne Thatcher for more information and to get connected. The St. Martin's team will meet for a debrief following the April 22 training. At that time we will gear up for a huge action in May to urge PECO to increase its purchase of local solar electric power.
