Building Our Economic Future
. . .
On a Strong Foundation of Past Performance
In the past five years, our Kitsap Economic Development Alliance directly assisted business clients over 600 times, impacting 30,000 local jobs, and influencing nearly $2B in capital investment in Kitsap by KEDA's clients.
These are more than numbers: our efforts influence the local economy and quality of life for every child, woman, man, employee and employer in our community. We are all impacted by our economy; decisions made by one business ripples throughout Kitsap County and the region.
Our team of economic development professionals deliver a wide array of business retention, expansion and attraction services directly to local businesses (our clients) as they invest and grow jobs that shape the economic future of Kitsap County. We consider every member of our Alliance to be client, and every business in Kitsap, or considering Kitsap, to be a prospective client.

Conducting Effective Conversations
THE CHALLENGE:
Conducting an effective conversation is both an art and a science. Last month we looked at the science behind this topic and this month we will discuss the art of effective communication. According to George Bernard Shaw "the single biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place!" The art of effective communication lies in three learned skills: active listening, being empathetic, and the use of probing questions.
THE SOLUTION:
Let's look at how you can learn to use each of these to become an effective communicator and conversationalist.

Central Kitsap projects a boon for local construction firms
Bond-funded proects will employ hundreds of workers.
SILVERDALE - Two construction projects will keep 60 Stirrett Johnsen Inc. workers busy over the next five years, all within a 10-
minute drive of the company's home office.
The Silverdale-based mechanical contractor has signed on to install plumbing at the Central Kitsap school campus and the Harrison Medical Center hospital in Silverdale, both slated for construction between now and 2020. The company is one of many local firms poised to benefit from the roughly $1 billion flowing to massive capital projects in the heart of the county.
Army of subcontractors
The school projects have the potential to employ hundreds of local tradespeople.
Various stages of construction will be broken into bid packages that will be bid on by subcontractors. Those subcontractors will hire subcontractors, who might hire still more subcontractors.
....
Korsmo expects to put 26 packages out to bid for Olympic High School. Project manager Chad Wirth estimated each package might require expertise from five trades to complete, and each trade might employ five to 10 workers. The numbers multiply rapidly. Read more
