Scripture: John 8:12
The Light Shines in the Darkness
I am broken-hearted once again as another mass shooting has taken the lives of innocent people. These are dark days as our country is filled with voices of sorrow, anger, and hatred. I also turn to God in prayer.

These are times when our faith is sorely tested. We ask God why these horrible things keep happening. We look to our leaders to show us the way to peace, but this world refuses to be peaceful. Sadly, although issues and places and leaders change, we remain similar to the people who lived in the world in the time of Christ. We still are in need of a savior.

I am convinced that only the light and love of Jesus Christ can overcome the darkness and hate found in this world. We cannot return violence for violence, or more hatred for hatred. In 1 John 5:4 we read, "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith."  In faith, we know that Christ died for us and a better world awaits us with him.

Deep in my heart, I believe that faith in Christ our Savior is the only power that can transform our grief into hope, and shine light onto this darkened world. The peace we long for, the peace that "passes all understanding," can be found only in Jesus. He calls us to love one another, as he loves each one of us, his cherished children. Now, more than ever, we need to pass it on.

Prayer: Dear Lord, in times of darkness, we turn to our faith and trust in the light of your redeeming love. Amen.
