2017 Discovery Guide, Fishing Map and Durham Cycle Tours Maps are now available!

Durham Tourism is thrilled to release three all-new guides this month, promoting spectacular tourist experiences within Durham Region! 

The 2017 Discovery Guide provides Durham residents and visitors with an in-depth look at our fantastic tourism attractions. Available online and in print, it features a calendar of events, plus insider information on where to eat, what to do, and where to stay in beautiful Durham Region! 

For fishing enthusiasts, the Fishing Map is a must-have for planning your ideal fishing experience - any time of year. A four-season fisherman's paradise, Durham Region has a large and welcoming fishing community, offering world-class fishing opportunities  for family fishing trips and seasonal anglers alike. Prime time is all the time in Durham! 

The Durham Cycle Tours Map is your perfect road cycling companion. Printed on waterproof paper for improved durability, cyclists will love using this map to curate their own unique adventure, while exploring the natural beauty that Durham Region has to offer.  Updated features include new route suggestions and an excellent section on trip planning!

Maple Syrup Celebrations  

March marks the beginning of maple syrup season in Durham Region! It doesn't get much more Canadian than tapping your own sweet maple syrup straight from the tree.
 
Maple syrup celebrations are taking place across Durham this month. These events are sure to provide you and your family with special memories, and may even become a tradition you look forward to each spring! Be sure to mark your calendars for one, or all of the following:
 
Brooks Farms Maple Syrup Fest - March 4 through mid-April
Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival - starting March 11 through April 2
Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival - April 1 and 2

Sport and Leisure Fair

Interested in becoming more active with your family this year? 

Stop by the annual Sport and Leisure Fair on March 5, at the Newcastle and District Recreation Complex, and learn about the many sport and leisure opportunities available in your community!
 
Community displays offering everything from basketball, figure skating and model railroads, to painting, music and baton, will be set up from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. 

Bring your swim suit and enjoy a free family swim from 2 to 4 p.m. Pizza will be provided courtesy of Bowmanville Boston Pizza.

Pancake and Family Fun Day

Who doesn't love a pancake breakfast with the whole family?
 
If you are looking for something fun to do on March 5, fill your morning with delicious pancakes and family friendly fun  at the second-annual Pancake and Family Fun Day

Hosted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sunnybrae Golf Club in Port Perry, families can also enjoy snowshoeing and sleigh rides, as well as free kid's craft activities.

Tackle Swap and Fishing Show

Calling all anglers! The 5th annual Bowmanville Tackle Swap and Fishing Show returns on March 12, at Clarington Central Secondary School, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
This year's show will have double the floor space and include more vendors to accommodate growing attendance for 2017! The show will include fishing companies and clubs, pro-staff, popular fishing personalities, guides, and plenty of new and used fishing gear for sale at great prices.
 
Kids age 13 and under will receive a free fishing product, and there will be plenty of free draw prizes for some great fishing tackle. The cost of entry is either a non-perishable food donation, or $3 per family.

Line up everybody, line up, line up, it's time to see the Bubble Guppies LIVE !
 
The hit Nickelodeon television show is coming to life at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa on March 25. Your little ones will love singing and dancing along with Molly, Gil, and the whole gang in the live theatrical production, Ready to Rock. Get ready to dive in and enjoy this swimsational show with your family.

Wheelchair Basketball   

If you are interested in a new experience that is both challenging and fun, head to Durham College on March 20, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., to participate in wheelchair basketball! 

This event is open to all, and is intended to teach, expand and promote the sport of wheelchair basketball.

Kiwanis Music Festival   

Enjoy the musical talents of Durham Region's youth at the annual Oshawa-Whitby Kiwanis Music Festival.
 
The festival has been operating for more than 40 years; providing local youth with the opportunity to perform their music for professional adjudicators and the public. Come and experience playoff concerts in piano, voice and instrumental, taking place from March 27 to April 7, in various locations throughout Oshawa and Whitby.
