Cosmetology Student Wins Scholarship from Local Great Clips

The franchisee owner of local Great Clips salons, recently awarded a scholarship to Selena Berrios of Hamilton, a Cosmetology student at the Mercer County Technical School District's Assunpink Center.
To be considered for the scholarship, students submitted responses to questions related to their strengths, attributes, and career goals in the cosmetology industry. The Great Clips Scholarship program awards $100,000 each year to cosmetology students throughout North America, with individual awards ranging from $250 to $1,500.

Students Participate in 5th Annual Rotary Soup 4 You Cook-off

Culinary Arts and Baking and Dining students were thrilled to participate in the 5th Annual Hamilton Rotary Soup 4 You Cook-off event. The Culinary Arts students showcased their delicious smoked duck and mushroom soup. The Baking and Dining students prepared an assortment of breads and cookies for the hundreds who attended the fundrasier.

Build it Better Design Challenge

STEM Academy students participated in a "Build it Better Design Challenge" hosted by NJIT. Students were challenged to build a self-propelled rubber band car that carries water. Students worked diligently in small groups to build and test their vehicles. MCTS appreciated the generous support from partners including NJIT and August eTech for making this possible.

Widener University Scholarship Winner
|
Congratulations to Health Science Academy junior Daniella R., recipient of a Widener University High School Leadership Award. Award winners will be honored and recognized during a special celebratory program at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Students will receive a certificate and the opportunity to participate in a leadership experience at Widener University. Students will also receive a $20,000 scholarship awarded over four years if they enroll as undergraduates at Widener University.

George Tomko ('97 - Electrical Construction) was recently awarded the 2017 Career Success Award. George is the owner of Innovative Awards, Inc. in Hamilton. The General Advisory Committee of the Mercer County Technical Schools sponsors the Career Success Award as a means of recognizing individuals in our community who have graduated from any campus of the Mercer County Technical Schools as a secondary or postsecondary student, and have attained significant career achievements in their respective occupations.

'Ah-Ha' Moments Lay Career Foundations as STEM Academy High School Students Earn Up to 32 MCCC Credits

With hands-on design, problem-solving tasks, and real world experience as centerpieces of the curriculum, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Academy at Mercer County Technical Schools (MCTS) is offering a different kind of high school education -- and it's happening in partnership with Mercer County Community College (MCCC).
According to MCTS Supervisor Marcie Tandy, the rigorous, innovative curriculum is preparing the next generation for STEM jobs, which are projected to grow to more than 9 million through 2022, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In this unique MCTS-MCCC partnership, students spend their school day on the college's West Windsor Campus and can earn up to 32 college credits on the way to their high school diplomas. Read more.
