Worship with Us this Weekend!
by Armando Alemdar Ara
Transfiguration of Jesus

Join us this Sunday for our 9:30am Traditional Worship Service and/or Informal Worship Service at 11:00am.

It's Transfiguration Sunday - when Jesus and a couple of disciples go up the mountain to pray. Suddenly the disciples see Jesus and Moses and Elijah in an intense light....

Our scripture passages are Exodus 24:12-18 and Matthew 17:1-9  with a sermon entitled New Light. The Israelites and the Early Christians are overwhelmed with the light that shines from the Holy. The people are watching this happen and are stunned by it. Basking in the light does not happen forever as your attention is drawn to other places ... and you need to go back to the darkness and shadows to help banish them. Where do you experience light and how do you return to it and other fresh expressions of light and presence in different places?

What else is going on this Sunday? Glad you asked!

Ash Wednesday Worship
Wed March 1 | 7:00pm | Sanctuary
All ages are invited to join us as we begin our Lenten Journey toward Holy Week and Easter. We celebrate the sacrament of communion and give you an opportunity to have ashes (last year's palms) placed on your forehead or back of your hand. The choir sings and we hear Jesus' words about being more faithful as recorded in Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21. We also light our Lenten candles of courage, vulnerability, patience, flexibility, receptivity, advocacy, generosity. Each time we worship during Lent, we will extinguish one candle as we get closer to the darkness of Good Friday. We light all of the candles again on Easter morning as nothing can extinguish God's light or love.

VIDEO of the Week
30 seconds - intense emotion of parent accepting their transgender teen.

Joke

Why can't you trust an atom?

Because they make up literally everything.

Inspiration
When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God. - Leviticus 19:33-34

There's a gender in your brain and a gender in your body. For 99 percent of people, those things are in alignment. For transgender people, they're mismatched. That's all it is. It's not complicated, it's not a neurosis. It's a mix-up. It's a birth defect, like a cleft palate. ~Chaz Bono
