Dear MPCSD Parents and Community,
At last Wednesday night's Board meeting, the Board passed a
resolution
to reduce a total of 29.67 full-time equivalent positions no later than the beginning of the 2017-18 school year unless the District's revenues are increased substantially. If Measure X does not pass, the Board will begin taking further measures to layoff teachers and support staff at the March 14 Board meeting. MPCSD's Plan of Action
As you already know, our time, energy and expenditures point to our Strategic Directions, which are an integral part of our Locally Controlled Accountability Plan (LCAP). While our actions continue to focus on the experience of every child via our current LCAP and site plans, we are also in the midst of analyzing feedback from the recent surveys parents, teachers, and students completed. In the weeks ahead we will be reviewing the findings, examining our current plans, and leveraging the constructive feedback. Using feedback to reflect and improve in positive and empowering ways is becoming a best practice in
MPCSD. We approach feedback with a growth mindset, modeling for our students that improvement happens when you reflect, work hard and take action.
Speaking of working hard, another example of an initiative, directly related to our strategic directions, is the development of curriculum maps in Math and English Language Arts. This work is being led by teacher leaders, Alicia Payton and Lel
a Ward, in collaboration with classroom teachers across the district. These curriculum maps along with our formative
assessment system are a reflection on how we value the expertise and experience of our teachers, while continuing to build capacity as a teaching and learning organization. As we head toward spring, I will be sharing more information about our exciting plans for 2017-18.
