Parents frequently ask me how they can stay involved at the high school level given that students gain more independence as they get older. One of the most impactful ways I can encourage families to stay engaged is through the use of Lake Park's Home Access Center (HAC), which allows 24/7 access to view features like grades, attendance and fees.

Furthermore, I am excited to announce that HAC can now be accessed from mobile devices using the eSchoolPLUS Family app. Launching this free app means that real-time academic and financial information is available with the simple touch of a phone wherever families may be located. View the instructions for downloading the family app, selecting our school district and logging in to view your student(s). The username and password for HAC and eSchoolPLUS family app are the same.

In addition to monitoring your student's progress at home or remotely, I strongly recommend participating in the second semester Parent Teacher Conferences scheduled on Thursday, March 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The opportunity to meet face-to-face with teachers not only provides immediate feedback, but also personalizes your son's/daughter's student achievement.

Lancers will have a shortened day of school and follow the SMART-day schedule, with dismissal at 12:08 p.m. for West Campus and 12:48 p.m. for East Campus. To register for conferences, parents must use the electronic conference scheduler that is available until Wednesday, March 1 at 3:00 p.m.

Thank you for staying connected to teaching and learning through these above-mentioned opportunities and more. We hope you will continue dialoguing with your student(s) and encouraging the use of supportive academic resources that are available during the school day and beyond. I truly value our partnership with families to contribute to student success.

Administering the Illinois Science Assessment
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requires all public high schools to administer a science test to students enrolled in Biology. The Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) is an online assessment designed to assess student mastery of the Next Generation Science Standards that corresponds to the content of Biology.

Each test will begin with a written passage followed by a series of questions. The format of the questions will be a combination of open-ended, multiple-choice, drop down selections, and multiple-select in which there may be more than one correct response. Each test will also include multiple-choice items that do not follow a written passage.

In order to minimize disruptions to the school day, students will be tested during their Biology class. Most of the students will complete the assessment in 30-40 minutes, well within a single class period. Additional time will be provided to students if they need it.

According to ISBE, the test must be given between March 1 and April 28, 2017. Lake Park will administer the online test on March 9 and March 10. Students will be notified of their test date by their Biology teacher. Students should bring their charged Chromebook to school on their test date along with a calculator.
