Educator of the Year Nominations
It is time once again to begin the annual selection for the Educator of the Year award. Each year, one of the outstanding educators at HUHS is recognized through this award for his or her efforts on behalf of our students. Although only one educator is presented the award per year, the selection process offers the opportunity for students, parents, other teachers and staff, and administrators to provide recognition for outstanding educators by nominating them for this award. The recipient of the Educator of the Year award is recognized at the Hartford Rotary Awards Banquet in May and becomes the HUHS nominee for the Herb Kohl Fellowship for the following school year.

The nomination process is just beginning. Nomination forms by clicking  here, in the Main Office, or from the front lobby receptionist. The criteria for the award and the requirements for the nomination process are described on the nomination form. All nominations must be signed and submitted to Dan Dobner or the front receptionist by  3:00 PM on  Friday, March 31, 2017. A committee of past award winners, students, and administrators will review the nominations and meet the week of  April 3 to select the 2017 HUHS Educator of the Year.

I hope you will participate in this year's nomination process. In addition, please encourage students to participate by completing a nomination form. Nominees will receive a copy of all nominations submitted on their behalf. Please see Dan Dobner if you have any questions regarding this award.

Thank you for your participation.
DECA State Conference
DECA has returned from the State Career Development Conference held at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva. Nine HUHS students attended and eight competed in different business and marketing fields. We saw success with Lauren Hautala! Lauren competed in Principles of Hospitality. She earned a metal for one of her role plays. Lauren also earned high scores in her second role play and test to place on the Top 10! This has earned Lauren a spot to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, CA at the end of April. Congratulations Lauren and good luck!!

Cohort Project
Freshmen cohort continues its Mission to Mars! After creating TED Talk videos about the history and problems associated with traveling to Mars, students are beginning to plan their mission. To learn the logistics of the mission, students played a game where they had to weigh factors such as budget, weight, power source, and risk/reward factors. Students will now use what they learned in the game to propose a mission in a Shark Tank presentation where they have an opportunity to earn extra funding and equipment for their mission.

Forensic Accounting Field Trip
On Monday, March 6 a small group of accounting students visited Lakeland University to participate in the Forensic Accounting Competition.  Prior to attending this conference, the two teams received a forensic accounting case study and prepared a 10 minute presentation on the case.  This year's case study focused on Wells Fargo and the fallout from a phony accounts scandal discovered last fall.  While neither of our teams placed in the Top 5 at the competition, students experienced the research process associated with presenting a complex case study, as well as guest speakers including an FBI Agent, an FBI Forensic Accountant, forensic accountants from Insight Forensic Accounting and the Deputy Chief Risk Officer at Associated Bank!  Thanks to Lakeland University and the WICPA Accounting Career Awareness Grant for making this opportunity possible for our students!

National Honor Society Induction
The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character.

The Induction Ceremony took place at The Chandelier Ballroom on Tuesday, March 7.  Keynote speaker was 2006 Hartford Graduate, Mr. Aaron Rusch.  With 53 new members inducted the current membership stands at 118.

Master Class with Eric Whitacre
The HUHS Concert Choir was one of three choirs selected by internationally acclaimed composer Eric Whitacre to sing in his Master Class on Tuesday, March 7th.  The Concert Choir performed Lux Aurumque together with Muskego High School's choir under the direction of the composer.  Whitacre answered many questions about the composing process, the artistry of performing, and the life of a professional musician.  The Concert Choir had a once in a lifetime, authentic performance experience they will never forget.

STEM Bundle - Hidden Figures Movie

The STEM Bundle students and teachers took advantage of an all expense paid field trip to watch the movie Hidden Figures and listen to/ask questions of a panel of medical professionals from Aurora.  The movie and panel discussion was focused on the vital role that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) education/knowledge plays in our history and current lives. We want to thank Aurora for providing our (and West Bend) students and teachers with transportation, tickets to the movie, popcorn, soda and lunch along with bringing in a great panel of experts in the STEM area.

HUHS Booster Club Needs You!

Booster is the club at HUHS that raises funds through concession sales and 50/50 raffles at various meets, games and matches. Last school year we raised and donated $24,000 to various teams in the school and in scholarships. We earn that money with help from our members. How can you help? Work a concession stand. This is easy - selling a hamburger, hotdog, popcorn or drink. That's it - it's that simple. Come meet others like you in the community who find volunteering both helpful and rewarding. Want to also be a member? Check out our link on the HUHS website @  http://www.huhs.org/activities/booster-club.cfm. There you can find a membership brochure that can be printed out and either mailed in or dropped off at the athletic office. Still have questions? Email  sharonmeinberg@hotmail.com

Be a member. If you are a member, have you volunteered time yet? We need you!
