Principal Notes                                                 March 9, 2017
Dear Families,

During Lent we are invited to undertake a journey of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We pray for others and ourselves. We give something up. We share our time and ourselves more generously with other people. These traditional Lenten works remind us that denial and struggle--taking up our cross each day--are essential dimensions of living as disciples of Jesus, ultimately bringing new life, and help us prepare for the greatest celebration of the liturgical year, Easter.

On March 22nd, the 8th graders will be leading "Mission to Mars", an interactive program featuring our Share Space Mars Map. In addition to acting as tour guides for the 50x50-foot map, the 8th graders will also lead students through several other stations. These stations will be prepared by the 8th graders as part of their Astronomy unit. "Mission to Mars" will also be open that evening from 6:00-8:00 for school and parish families and the community. Please join us.

Congratulations to the 8th boys for their win over St. Joseph Academy in the Padre Sierra Tournament last weekend.  Come out and cheer on the boys at their next game at 8:00pm on Saturday at Mt. Mary University.

Grades 3rd -5th will host their annual Forensics Festival on Friday morning.  Please join us at 9:30 for this wonderful event.

The event we all have been waiting for, "A Night of PROMise" is only two weeks away. The gym will be transformed into a magical evening for you. You have been so generous with your contributions. Please go to the website and buy your tickets and start bidding on your favorite items today.

Just a reminder, there is no school on Monday. We have a teacher in-service that day.

We are still looking for a T-Ball Commissioner. The job entails organizing the summer T-ball program for incoming K4 through 2nd graders. Please consider this volunteer opportunity. It would be sad if no one "stepped up to the plate" to continue this wonderful program. Please see the office for details.

Please click here for Archbishop Listecki's weekly "Love One Another" message.

Faithfully,
Mary Tretow

Students participated in the Labyrinth Prayer Walk last Friday, praying in a unique way while on their Lenten journey.

Announcing Changes for Gym Uniform Sales
There has been a change in how gym uniforms can be purchased by school families effective immediately. (Gym uniforms are required for students 4th-8th grade.)  The office will no longer be collecting paper forms at the beginning of the school year. Families can now purchase their gym uniforms through Burghardt Sporting Goods during our spirit wear sales or from Land's End through our customized uniform site.

For Land's End site users, the gym uniforms can be purchased year-round if you have your child's profile set up as 4th grade or above. (Each year, you will need to manually update your child's profile as your child advances to the next grade.)  The logo on the gym uniforms is mandatory, and the site will default to the mandatory logo option before you add it to your cart.

Any gym uniforms purchased from prior sales or from the Thrift Shop will still be considered "in uniform." The change above applies only to the purchase of new gym uniforms.

If you have any questions about this new process, please contact Katie Carnell ( Kasdorfk@yahoo.com).

Concession Stand Coordinators Needed
We are looking for two parents to join the concession stand coordinator team for the 2017-18 school year! The coordinator opens/closes the concession stand one weekend a month - you pick what works best for your schedule. Volleyball season runs Sept. - Oct., with games on Friday nights and Saturday mornings until mid afternoon. Basketball season runs Dec. - Feb., with games Saturday mornings until mid-afternoon. Opening involves unlocking everything, getting cash boxes out, and directing volunteers to get the food started. Closing involves counting the cash boxes and directing volunteers in the clean-up process. This fulfills your concession duty requirement for all of your children who participate in SMV Athletics, for both the volleyball and basketball seasons. If interested please contact Beth Parey at  bparey@electricalsubstations.com or  262-821-0691

Track & Field Starting Soon!!
All students 5th through 8th grade are encouraged to participate. Please plan on attending the parent's info meeting on Wednesday, March 15th at 7pm in the gym. As always, we are looking for additional coaching help this season. No track experience is necessary--we will train you.  If interested, please see Paul Schmidt at the parent's meeting.

Golf
David Roesch Golf and SMV are gearing up for another great spring season of junior golf lessons. David has an impressive resume (2014 WI PGA Player of the Year, 2013 WI PGA Teacher of the Year, led the 2004 US Open after the first round, finished tied for 31st). Following are details on the lessons:
  • 5 weekly group lessons and range balls (short game and swing instruction)
  • Weekly lessons on Thursdays and Fridays at Storms range in Brookfield starting May 4 and ending June 2 (rain dates would be rescheduled for June 9)
  • Two one-hour sessions each Friday (4PM and 5PM) and one on Thursday (4 PM), although possibly two Thursday sessions depending on turnout
  • Cost will be $80 each for all lessons and range balls
  • Program open to 1st graders and above
  • Kids should bring their own clubs (limited amount of extra equipment available)
If interested, go to  http://www.davidroeschgolf.com/  and look for the link to "Spring After School Junior Golf Program"

Volleyball Camp
Coach Casey will be returning to SMV the week of July 24-27 to run volleyball camp for boys and girls currently in grades 3 through 7.  It is a FUN and instructional camp for players at all levels.  It is a great way to learn the skills needed to play for your school teams, or fine tune the skills of a club level player.  Kids will learn passing, setting, spiking and serving fundamentals while participating in fun games and drills.
