Sunday Service March 12
Our Early Period:  1517 to 1700 CE
Though Unitarianism can be traced back to the early Christian church (300CE), the current foundation started after the Reformation.  The next 100+ years were a string of revolutionary, radical, violent, and divisive changes.  From that chaos, Unitarians (later Universalists) clung on in defiance and grew after landing in the North America.

IT HAS BEEN SAID:
" A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME WILL SMELL AS SWEET"!

Several Congregational meetings ago the topic of changing the name of our Fellowship came up.
The Committee on Shared Ministry ( COSM ) has asked me to put the topic out again and ask for feed back from those who have thought about it.
I will have a green form available at church on Sunday or you can e-mail me at forsyl27@gmail.com. Thanks, Sylvia Forsyth,
                                                           member of COSM

Unafraid of the Dark
by Rosemary Bray

In her deeply affecting, vividly written memoir, Rosemary L. Bray describes with remarkable frankness growing up poor in Chicago in the 1960s, and her childhood shaped by welfare, the Roman Catholic Church, and the civil rights movement.   "Inspirational-More than a memoir, it is a 1960s coming-of-age tale, a professional development review"  This author is  Reverend Rosemary Bray McBratt, President of the Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, CA who gave the guest speech at our "50 Years on Freedom" celebration last December.

Bible Study Group for Liberal Religious Seekers

Robert Strayer - a recent guest speaker at our Fellowship - has agreed to lead a bible study group based on the book Transforming Bible Study by Walter Wink.  Each session will look at a passage of the Bible.  The focus will be on how it resonates in our lives today and its relevance to our contemporary context.  This is not an academic study, but rather an exploration of how the language of the Bible speaks to us now and how it can inform our personal spiritual quest.  Initially, we are planning four sessions, 1-1/2 hours each, once a month on  the first Thursday from 4:30 - 6:00 pm.   Location is still to be determined.  The first meeting will be  Thursday, April 6.

Robert Strayer has a Ph.D in History from UW Madison. He is a long time professor of world history, with a particular interest in religious themes; author of "Ways of the World", a widely used world history textbook; a  participant in various interfaith activities; and a member of La Selva Beach Community Church and Progressive Christian Forum.

If you are interested in participating or have questions, please contact Ann McCrow at  president@uufscc.org.
