Spotlight: A Story of Asking the Right Questions and Holding Institutions Accountable You’ve read the Boston Globe’s Pulitzer Prize-winning account or seen the Oscar-winning movie exposing the Catholic Church abuse cover-up. Sacha Pfeiffer, a key member of the Globe team and former WBUR reporter, explores the role of the press and of citizens in demanding a culture of accountability in a democracy. As citizens, how can we learn to ask the right questions and engage in effective action? How can each of us turn the spotlight on injustice and inequity in our society? Sacha will be joined in conversation by Dan Rothstein, co-founder of the Right Question Institute, and co-author of Make Just One Change: Teach Students to Ask Their Own Questions.  Admission is free and tickets are not required. This event will take place on Saturday, March 4, 8:00 PM at Cary Hall in Lexington Center.

Cyber Trolls, Death Threats and the First Amendment : From journalists and activists to doctors and politicians, death threats, and particularly anti-Semitic and anti-women cyber threats, have become common fodder on social media. The mechanisms of the internet – its global reach, immediacy and anonymity – have exposed an ugly underbelly of targeted hate.  As they consider user rights and First Amendment freedoms, social media platforms are grappling with whether to police, or even prosecute, these threats. Cyber Trolls, Death Threats and the First Amendment on Wednesday, March 15, 7:30 PM, is part of the Jonathan Samen Hot Buttons, Cool Conversations Discussion Series at the JCC – a program of the Ryna Greenbaum JCC Center for the Arts. Tickets are $18.
