" Lent stimulates us to let the Word of God penetrate our life and in this way to know the fundamental truth: who we are, where we come from, where we must go, what path we must take in life.

Happy Spring to all - I think!  The snow this week was a  surprise, and as of the time I am writing this (Tuesday) I don't know what tomorrow will bring.  Anyway we are anticipating the joys of Saint Patrick's Day on Friday.  Our 1st and 7th  grades will be performing a St. Patrick's Day play.  At this time it is scheduled for Thursday, but that may have to be postponed.  Please remember that Bishop Burbidge has given a dispensation for the Lenten restrictions this Friday
in honor of St. Patrick - and all Irish?!!!

Next Monday we will have a tag Day ($1) for wearing green or red.  Proceeds will benefit TEACH, an organization that provides scholarships supplies for underprivileged students in Guatemala.

Please see below for information about the gala and the Saint Lucy food drive.  Stay safe, everyone, and Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me. (Breastplate of Saint Patrick).

When a Pet Dies

For most children, pets are more than just animals their families own - they are members of the family and the best of friends.

Unfortunately, the joy of owning a pet goes hand-in-hand with the heartbreak of losing one, whether because of old age, illness, or an accident.

And that can be very difficult. After all, family pets often are the first to greet children in the morning and after school. Your pet may be the one your child looks to for comfort and companionship when ill or feeling down or upset.

While it is impossible to shelter children from the loss of a pet, you can help them cope with it. And because a pet's death might be their first time losing a loved one, the grieving process can help children learn how to cope with other losses throughout life.

The St. Ambrose  Food Collection for the St. Lucy Project is THIS Week!lucy

The St. Lucy Project is a food pantry and delivery program of The Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington that is striving to achieve a Diocese without hunger, one county, one neighborhood, one parish, one family at a time.  You are the "bedrock" foundation of the Catholic response to hunger in our Diocese.   Christ House is included in the St Lucy Project Network.

THIS WEEK, March 13-17, we will be collecting canned meat/fish, pasta sauce (no glass please), canned vegetables, children's snacks, peanut butter & jelly, soup,  cereals (hot and cold), dried and canned beans, canned fruit, juice, rice and pasta.  Please consider sending any of these items in with your child to help feed those less fortunate.  This is a St. Ambrose community-wide service project.  If you have any questions or comments please email the PTO - At-Large Service Member Clare Stalnaker at   [email protected] .  Thank you in advance for your help!

Club Updates

Last week STEM Club was only held for our Wednesday 2 nd -8 th grade members. The Wednesday group was given an engineering challenge: to design a luggage ramp for transporting baggage from an airplane to a conveyor belt. In our design challenge, an elevated cup was our airplane, marbles were our luggage, and our baggage pickup was a lower, bottom cup.

The members had to move their marbles, without losing them, or having them fall off the "conveyor" from one cup to the other. The materials available were: 2 cups, 4 craft sticks, 1 paper towel or 3 toilet paper rolls, 6 straws, tape, 4 pieces of paper, 6 index cards and string. After some decent negotiation by some of the STEM Club members, additional amounts of materials were made available.

All the teams did excellent, and it was a wonderful opportunity to put the Engineering Design Process (EDP) to work; imagining the design, creating, improving, testing and redesigning if necessary. The exercise also had a hidden agenda: a really fun way of utilizing potential and kinetic energy to each team's advantage while designing and building!
