Eastern Sierra Land Trust

With all the snow, rain, flooding, mudslides, and road closures we've had recently, it has been a bit difficult to imagine spring. But hang in there: it's right around the corner.

I had a glimpse of it just a few days ago. Songbirds were singing, hummingbirds were humming, and a few early bulbs were stretching greedily towards the sun. Before long, the Eastern Sierra will be awash in the bright colors of spring.

Winter Herd of Mule Deer
Local deer herds have had a tough time with all this snow. They've been hanging out on the roads, so please be careful. Slower speeds will save human and wild lives.
And with all this precipitation, this particular spring promises to be a real show-stopper. I can't wait to see the wildflowers and gardens in full bloom.

Speaking of... now is the time to start thinking about your garden. We're planning for our Pollinator Garden Workshop, annual spring "GardenFest" celebration, and a local garden tour (read below for more). I hope you'll join us at one or all of these fun spring events.

Wishing you a speedy spring! I hope you are staying safe and cozy in the midst of all these storms.

Best,
Kay Ogden,  Executive Director

P.S. -- Save the Date! Our party of the year, Lands & Legacy, is set for August 12 at Mammoth Mountain's Parallax Restaurant. I hope you'll join us as we celebrate the conservation successes you make possible.

The Key to a Blooming Garden
By creating a haven for pollinators in your yard, you can help keep the Eastern Sierra thriving

Pssst - do you know the secret to a blooming backyard?  Sun and soil are important, but it's bees, butterflies, and other pollinators that bring your garden to life year after year.

Yet pollinators are disappearing.  And as they suffer, so too does the beauty and productivity of the land you love - and all the families and wildlife that call it home.

Are you interested in creating a garden that will provide a safe haven for pollinators? Then join us for our third annual free Pollinator Garden Workshop on April 8th!

Your Voice is Needed
Take action to help save the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership Program

Since 2007, the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP) has restored more than 13,000 watershed acres, monitored more than 2,000 sites, educated more than 165,000 individuals, recruited more than 33,000 volunteers, and contributed more than 475,000 hours of service. SNAP members are on the frontline of protecting and restoring the Sierra Nevada lands you love.

Yet we now stand to lose this important service that AmeriCorps provides. A recent report suggests that AmeriCorps funding may be on the top of the list to be cut under President Trump's new budget plan.
Stand the Test of Time
Join the Bristlecone Grove monthly giving club and support local conservation year-round

As some of the oldest living life forms in the world, Bristlecone pine trees have endured countless blizzards and droughts over the centuries. They're a living symbol of the Eastern Sierra's legacy, and their roots run deep. Bristlecone pines stand the test of time.

And Bristlecone donors are people like you who care deeply - they want conservation to stand the test of time, too.

As a monthly donor, you'll magnify your impact on the future of our wild and productive lands. You'll help make sure that the work we do together will last for generations.

Volunteers Make the Difference
We're rejuvenating our volunteer program this year, and hope you'll lend a hand

Our volunteers are the heart and soul behind local conservation. From clearing dangerous trash from important habitat, to installing wildlife-friendly fencing, to addressing envelopes, to helping inspire the next generation - and SO much more - volunteers like you work year-round to protect the Eastern Sierra lands and waterways you treasure.

This year, we're introducing new opportunities to get involved as a volunteer, and we'd love your help!
