COSO Basics: Understanding Internal Controls

Cost: $75/person
CSBG Organizational Standards Category 8: Financial Operations and Oversight
Target Audience: CFOs, executive directors, deputy directors, fiscal staff

Internal controls of any entity are based on a framework issued by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO). For not-for-profits that may receive grant funding or are accountable for donations, effective internal controls are vital to an organization’s success. The COSO Internal Control – Integrated Framework 2013 can be applied to any organization of any size. As a result of this lively half-day seminar on the basics of the COSO Framework, you will gain an understanding of how to have more effective internal controls for your organization. A basic understanding of your policies and procedures will be needed to help you apply the framework. Participants can apply for 4 CPE credits.

As a result of this training, participants will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of COSO including internal controls and Integrated Framework 2013 and why it is so important to not-for-profit operations.
  • Learn how the COSO is fundamental to internal controls for every organization and at every level in every organization.
  • Learn how best to incorporate COSO into the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Be able to interact with peers to share best practices in an open environment.
