FLS 2017 DandD  
2017 Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host the 11th annual Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at a new location; the Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano. The theme is a Southern Soirée - Celebrating 100 Years of Lovejoy ISD. Denim and Diamonds Chair, Andrea Paranteau and Co-Chair, Carrie McClure welcome you to a night featuring dinner, entertainment, and live auctions.
 
Tickets are now on sale for $90 each. The ticket price will increase to $100 beginning Monday, March 10th. This year, guests will be seated at tables of 12. Raffle Tickets
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host a raffle entitled "Fab Five", which includes:

  • Texas Limo Wine Tour and Getaway

Raffle tickets are $100. Only 500 tickets will be sold. A drawing will be held for each item, giving each ticket a chance to win one of these prizes. The winners will be drawn at the Denim and Diamonds Gala. You do not need to be present to win. NEW! STAAR Testing
STAAR tests for all of our students are below. Please keep the STAAR testing dates in mind while scheduling doctor appointments and orthodontics appointments. If a student is pulled out of school once he/she has begun their STAAR exam, the state requires it be graded "as is". If a child is absent and they return within the make-up window, then they will take the test the day they return.  If you have questions or concerns regarding any conflicts you may have with the STAAR testing dates, please contact   Nardeen Boxell .

Book Fair
The Happy Camper Book Fair is here at Lovejoy Elementary!  The Book Fair will be open to purchase books from 7:45-3:45, March 6-9 and will be open from 7:45-12:00 on Friday, March 10th. Spring Break
Our Spring Break this year is March 13th through March 17th.  Enjoy your time off and we will see you back at school on Monday, March 20th.
 
NEW! Daddy/Daughter Dance
Dust off your boots and get gussied up for dinner, dessert, photos, and a two-steppin' good time! The Lovejoy Elementary PTA is hosting a Daddy/Daughter Western Shindig on Friday, April 7th from 6:30 - 8:30pm.  Tickets are $20 per family if purchased by March 24th and $25 per family if purchased after the 24th or at the door.  To view the order form, please click here.
 
NEW! Palio's and Denny's
Palio's ad Denny's is offering FREE Kids Meals to those students who color the Dr. Seuss coloring page (included in Thursday Folder) and turn them in at Palio's Fairview or Denny's Allen.  Offer expires March 31st.

NEW! Rock Your Socks for Down Syndrome
On Tuesday, March 21st, our school is going to learn about Down Syndrome.  Please have our child wear bright, mismatched socks on this day.  The funky socks will serve as a conversation starter to spread awareness and knowledge about Down Syndrome.
 
NEW! Box Top Winners
WOW!  Thank you to everyone who clipped and turned in Box Tops this second contest period.  Because of you, we mailed in over 3400 Box Tops! That's over $340 for our school!  The class that brought in the most unexpired Box Tops and is the winner of a special class party is...
 
Mrs. Everett's Second Grade Class!  Congratulations, Mrs. Everett's Class!
 
Our final class competition of this school year is going on NOW through Friday, May 5th.  Keep clipping those "little dimes" and turn them in to the collection boxes located by the front office or the library.  Make sure to mark your child's teacher's name on the zip lock baggies so that their class can receive credit towards the last class competition.  Happy Clipping!

NEW!2017 Kindergarten Round-up
Kindergarten Round-Up will be held the week of April 3 rd - 7 th at each elementary school from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The Round-up is a pre-registration opportunity for parents of kindergarten age students for the 2017 - 2018 school year.
If you have a child who will be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2017, please plan to attend. 
**It is very important for all parents to enroll their children for Kindergarten this week to help us plan for next year. 
Pre-Registration Steps:  It's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3
1.  Email your campus registrar with the following information:
Student's legal name
Date of birth
Last four digits of your child's social security number
Home address and phone number
Hart Registrar - [email protected]
Lovejoy Registrar - [email protected]
Puster Registrar - [email protected]
2.  You will receive a user name and password by email to complete your online registration at www.lovejoyisd.net.  Click on Parents, PowerSchool Parent Portal, and Create Account.  Once an account is created, you will need to complete the on-line forms.
3.  Attend Kindergarten Round-Up between April 3 rd - April 7 th at your campus between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM. 
Kindergarten Round-Up is a parent event only, students and parents will be invited to the school on May 12 th for a Kindergarten Sneak Peek from 8:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Lovejoy Elementary Choir - Allen Americans
The Allen Americans are excited to invite all students, staff, family, and friends to the March 30 th  Allen  Americans Hockey Game, headlined by a special performance of the National Anthem by the Lovejoy  Elementary Choir.  All performers will receive a complimentary ticket to the game!  To order tickets, click here  or call 972-912-1000.

LES PTA Scholarship Application
Each year the Lovejoy Elementary PTA provides a $500 scholarship for a college bound Lovejoy Senior.  The student must have attended LHS for their sophomore, junior, and senior years to be eligible.  Please pass along the information about the scholarship to anyone who might be interested.  Interested students should contact Tina Walenciak at [email protected].
 
Gifted and Talented Referrals for 2017 - 2018 
The referral window for gifted and talented services is now open. Click here for referral forms which are located online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  The window will close March 31, 2017.  Testing will be Saturday, April 8, 22, or 29 for students in grades 1-12. Kindergarten students will be tested during the school day.  A brief information session will review the gifted and talented referral process and services offered in Lovejoy.

NEW!  Varsity Baseball Little Leopard Night Out:  March 21st
You are invited to join the Lovejoy Varsity Baseball team on Tuesday, March 21st for Little Leopard Night,  The team will play West Mesquite High School.  The Lovejoy Elementary Choir will perform the National Anthem.  All elementary students attend will receive free admission to the game and will have the opportunity to join the Varsity players on the baseball field for the National Anthem.  All participants will receive popcorn and baseball pennants.  Please arrive at 7:00pm. Flats for Bats
Lovejoy Baseball has begun their annual flower sale. Please help support Lovejoy Baseball and buy your spring flowers from one of the high school players. Flowers will be delivered to your house on April 8th. Find any Lovejoy Baseball player and place your order or email [email protected] and we will have a player come by and take your order. Orders will be accepted through March 21st.

NEW! Spring Sale at LHS and WSMS Stores
Beginning March 20th the school stores at LHS and WSMS will be offering 50% off the entire store,  The LHS store is open Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 4:15pm.  Please check with WSMS for store hours.

TOMORROW: Spring Star Party
Puster Elementary, along with the Texas Astronomical Society, will host a star party on Monday, March 6. Viewing will begin at 6:30 PM and end at approximately 8:30 PM. The Lovejoy community is invited to attend. Parking will be available in the front parking lot. You may enter through the front doors where signs will direct you to the courtyard and into the back parking lot where viewing will take place. Access to the back parking lot will not be available via the driveway.

NEW! LHS Orchestra Spirit Night:  March 21st
Lovejoy Orchestra will host a spirit night at Twisted Root on Tuesday, March 21st from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM.  Join the orchestra for a great combo of delicious food, good company, and support of the Lovejoy Orchestra. 10% of the proceeds from your visit will go to the Orchestra Booster Club. When you order please let them know you are with Lovejoy Orchestra. This includes dine in and take out.  Twisted Root is located at 232 Town Place, Fairview.
 
NEW! Lovejoy Gifted Association Sponsors Fantastic Fossils!: April 11th
Join John S. Mead, a passionate 6th grade science teacher at St. Mark's, Origins Explorer, and Nature Photographer as he takes us through his exciting participation with the excavation of a new human species, Homo Naledi, from the Rising Star Cave in South Africa. Mr. Mead's 6th grade class had the opportunity to Skype with the scientists in Africa over the course of the excavation before it was ever announced. This species of human ancestor is believed to be 900,000 to 2 billion years old and was an incredible find. Mr. Mead will be sharing stories about the discovery as well as his outstanding photos. The presentation will be held at Lovejoy High School from 7:00 - 8:30 PM on Tuesday, April 11th. This event is sponsored by the Lovejoy Gifted Association.
 
NEW! LISD Color Guard Showcase:  March 23rd
On March 23, the LISD Color Guard Showcase will be held in the Lovejoy High Gym at 7:30 PM.  This free event is open to the community.  We hope you will join us in support of the Color Guard wish them well for championships.

Impactive
Lovejoy High School Junior Matt Harris (pictured at the far right) is helping deliver 300 duffle bags for the Impactive Foundation. 
 
Impactive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering duffle bags to foster children in need.  Please click here to learn more about Impactive and to learn how you may help.
 


Give Glasses and Give the Gift of Sight
LHS Junior Eleise Brooks will be assisting her father, Dr. Dain Brooks, MD, on medical missions to Mexico (March), India (July), and Africa (2018) to help cure the world's blind.
Their main focus will be performing cataract surgeries; however, they will also be providing glasses to those in need. 
 
You may help by donating new or used glasses.  There will be marked boxes available at each campus.  To learn more please click here
 
Lovejoy ISD Centennial Logo Design Contest - Due TOMORROW!
Lovejoy ISD is accepting original artwork for the Centennial Logo Design Contest.  This contest is open to all Lovejoy ISD students.  For more information, please click here.  

LHS Choir Chipotle Spirit Night:  March 28th
The LHS Choir will host a Chipotle Spirit Night on Tuesday, March 28th from 5:30 - 8:30 PM at the Chipotle located at 103 Central Expressway in Allen. 50% of the profits will go to supporting LHS Choir, so bring a friend , this flyer (printed or on your phone), and your appetite in support our Singing Leopards.

Camp Invention - June 19-23
Camp Invention will be held at Sloan Creek Intermediate School from June 19th through 23rd for children entering K - 6th grades.  For more information click here
