Casa Flamenca and the NHCC present Jesús Muñoz Flamenco in Red Note
ALBUQUERQUE, NM. 2/22/17- Casa Flamenca and the National Hispanic Cultural Center present Jesús Muñoz Flamenco in Red Note-original music and works by a cast of international dancers and musicians who explore dynamic, visionary movements in dance, music, and visual art inspired by cante flamenco. The show will run March 3-4 at 8 pm in the Albuquerque Journal Theatre. Tickets are $20, $30, $40, and $50, with $5 off for seniors and students, and are available from the NHCC Box Office, at 505-724-4771, or at www.nhccnm.org .
 
The title Red Note is borrowed from the symbolic "Blue Note Jazz Club." Like jazz, flamenco has its roots in raw, intimate improvisation upon standard structures with profound rhythm and melody, arriving at this improvisation through interpretations of the structures of cante jondo, or deep song. Red Note will take you on a journey through southern Spain-where soul meets dance-and through the evolution of flamenco's dance and music.
Dancers and musicians in the show include Ismael de la Rosa, Spain (singer, resident of NYC); Anna Colom (cante, Barcelona); Yosmel Montejo (bass, Camagüey, Cuba); Israel Katumba (percussion, Cadiz, Spain); Guillermo Guillen (guitar, Lyon, France); Lydia Gallegos (baile, USA); Mariano Morales (piano/violin, Puerto Rico/NM); Valeria Montes (dancer, Durango, Mexico); and Jesús Muñoz (dancer/director, USA).

Nationally and internationally, Muñoz is recognized for having a unique and original rhythm fusing his American roots with traditional Spanish influence. Jesus Muñoz Flamenco is a world-class flamenco ensemble, dedicated to creating a unique improvisational structure that can adapt to many traditional and contemporary methods.
 
Muñoz has been called "riveting" and a "jazz session artist," with the live performance direction of an orchestra conductor. The company features original works and national and international guest artists every season. 

The National Hispanic Cultural Center is dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and advancement of Hispanic culture, arts, and humanities, and is a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.
