This presentation will assist your faculty in teaching trainees about core  elements of Professionalism and how to address lapses, as well as how to identify conditions  which challenge their own ability to act professionally.
NYCOMEC to Host 16th Annual Trainee Poster Competition
 
NYCOMEC will host its 16th Annual NYCOMEC Trainee Poster Competition, in conjunction with the NYCOMEC Grand Rounds, on Thursday May 25, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the LaGuardia Marriott Hotel located in East Elmhurst, NY.  All trainees from NYCOMEC programs are invited to present their experimental research and case study posters at this event. 

Participants must complete an Application Form and submit it, along with the Word version of the poster's abstract, by Wednesday, April 5, 2017, before midnight

NYCOMEC Celebrates its One Year Anniversary of the NYCOMEC Blue Osteopathic Recognition Webinar Series!

On March 16, 2017, NYCOMEC will celebrate the one year anniversary of its NYCOMEC Blue Osteopathic Recognition Webinar Series. The series has been well-received, with nearly 100 live audience participants viewing each lecture.   

We are always looking for more presenters for our webinars . If you are interested in presenting a topic to NYCOMEC's trainees, faculty/staff and medical students from both TouroCOM and NYITCOM, please e-mail Lynn Mark, D.O. or Alana Berg or call our office at 516.686.3730 to schedule a webinar. Conducting a presentation counts towards scholarly activity requirements.

ACGME/AODME to Host Osteopathic Pre-Conference Before March ACGME Meeting

For the first time, the Association for Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators (AODME) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) will co-host the  Pre-Conference for Osteopathic Programs and Institutions  at the ACGME Annual Educational Conference. The one-day course, which takes place on March 9, 2017 is intended for AOA-approved programs and institutions that wish to learn more about ACGME accreditation and Osteopathic Recognition The ACGME annual conference will take place March 9-12, in Orlando, Florida. ACGME Announces Update to Application for Osteopathic Recognition

The ACGME's Osteopathic Principles Committee has updated the Osteopathic Recognition Application document containing the recognition-specific questions. Osteopathic Recognition Workshop at AACOM/AODME Joint Conference

A pre-conference workshop titled Osteopathic Recognition: Peer-to-Peer Workshop for Completing the Osteopathic Recognition Application will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 as part of the AACOM/AODME Joint Conference which will take place on April 25-29, 2017 in Baltimore, MD. The workshop will provide guidance and insights for programs seeking osteopathic recognition, from peers who have attained osteopathic recognition for their programs. ACGME Transitional Year Review Committee Seeks Nominations for Membership

The ACGME's Transitional Year Review Committee is seeking prospective candidates for three (3) member positions, whose six year term will begin on July 1, 2018. Applicants must be certified through an American Board of Medical Specialties member board or the American Osteopathic Association in Anesthesiology, Pediatrics or Surgery. For information and a nomination form, contact Accreditation Administrator Aimee Morales. Nominations will be accepted until July 1, 2017.
ACGME Review Committees Seek Comments on Proposed Changes

The following ACGME Review Committees are seeking comments regarding proposed changes to their respective Program Requirements:

Anesthesiology is beginning the process of revising the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Pain Medicine, and is seeking the input of program directors and faculty members in the field. T he Committee invites comments on the currently-approved Program Requirements, which are posted as Currently in Effect on the  Anesthesiology section of the website. Comments for Committee consideration should be sent to [email protected] by March 23, 2017.  Direct questions to Executive Director Anne Gravel Sullivan

The proposed focused revision to the Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Family Medicine and accompanying Impact Statement have been posted for review and comment. Please note that the comment period will close on March 22, 2017. The documents can be viewed here

Dr. Ross-Lee in Ebony: Black Women in Medicine

Black Women in Medicine, a new documentary, follows several African-American female doctors, both newly-minted residents and veterans, as they journey from medical school to doctordom in their respective fields, according to an article in  Ebony  magazine. Barbara Ross-Lee, D.O., is featured as the first African-American woman to become a medical school dean, and highlights the differences in the experiences of the older generation from the new.  To read the article please click here .

The AOA's Doctors That DO national brand awareness campaign, which has been seeking to raise awareness of D.O.s and the unique, holistic care they provide, has reached two important milestones: 1 million visits to DoctorsThatDO.org  and 350,000 Find Your DO physician profile views.

NYITCOM's Martinez Named AAAS Leshner Leadership Institute Public Engagement Fellow

Luis R. Martinez, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences at NYITCOM, is one of 15 infectious disease researchers selected as 2017-18 Public Engagement Fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Leshner Leadership Institute for Public Engagement with Science.
