COACH NEEDED FOR BC MASTERS
|
BC Masters is looking to fill two coaching slots for the summer session from June 2 - August 11. The first is a
Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday practice from
6:05 a.m. - 7:05 a.m.
The second is a
Tuesday and Thursday evening practice from
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

SWIM RI EDGES CAMBRIDGE MASTERS BY SIX POINTS TO TAKE LARGE TEAM TITLE AT SCY CHAMPIONSHIPS
|
It was a fight to the finish at this year's NE-LMSC SCY Championships at Harvard University. SwimRI and Cambridge Masters Swim Club exchanged the lead over the course of the final weekend, but
SwimRI came away the victors with 7,431 points to
CMSC's 7,425. Rounding out the top five teams in the large team category were
Worcester Area Masters in third with 3,442 points,
Maine Masters in fourth with 2,759 and
Great Bay Masters in fifth with 2,391 points.
Top five teams in the medium team category:
1. Granite State Penguins (2,254)
2. Greenwood Masters (1,792)
3. Nutmeg Masters (1,706)
4. Bearcat Masters (1,414)
5. Connecticut Masters (1,064)

Congratulations to SwimRI on their victory at this year's NE-LMSC SCY Championships!
Christie Hayes from Nutmeg Masters won the women's high point honors with 219 points and
Thomas Manfredi from SwimRI took the men's high point honors with 214 points.

U.S. MASTERS SWIMMING HOSTING ADULT LEARN-TO-SWIM
INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION COURSE
|
On
Saturday, April 23rd, USMS will host is Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructor Certification Course in Quincy, MA. The USMS Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructor Certification curriculum is based on teaching methods practiced by the leading authorities of ALTS programs nationwide. The most innovative and effective training methods are taught to ensure that certified instructors have the tools necessary to teach an adult to swim, at a minimum, one length of a 25-yard pool and become safer in the water.
Who should attend?
- Anyone interested in teaching adults how to swim
- Staff members and instructors at aquatics facilities that want to offer an adult learn-to-swim program
Prerequisites
- Current USMS membership.
- You must be able to perform the American Red Cross' Five Skills of Water Competency:
- Step or jump into the water over your head
- Return to the surface and float or tread water for one minute
- Turn around in a full circle and find an exit
- Swim 25 yards to the exit
- Exit the pool without the use of a ladder
Fees
$300 (Includes all classroom and in-water instruction, materials, and lunch). NE-LMSC is offering need-based subsidies for this program. For more information, or to request reimbursements, please contact NE-LMSC board members and ALTS instructor, Bill Meier.
Classroom instruction will be held at the Boston Marriott Quincy with the water portion of the course held at the South Shore YMCA Quincy branch.

SAVE THE DATE: SWIM CLINICS WITH KARLYN PIPES

On May 14 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. Karlyn Pipes will be offering two clinics for interested Masters swimmers -
Faster Freestyle Clinic or a Stroke Clinic.
Karlyn would love to share with you the secrets to swimming faster and with less effort in just one clinic.
Karlyn is known worldwide for being an accomplished swimmer. However, she is equally as talented as an instructor and uses her high energy to deliver a fun and face paced clinic woven with personal experience. The drills and techniques are simple, fun, and most importantly, easy to apply!
A few of Karlyn's accomplishments
- International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) inductee class of 2015
- 2012 World Master Swimmer of the Year
- International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame (IMSHOF) inductee class of 2007
- Has broken over 200 FINA Masters world records to date
- 332 U.S. Masters national records to date
- Has broken a FINA Masters World record in every stroke

SWIMMING SAVES LIVES HITS NEW ENGLAND AGAIN
|
For the third year in a row, the New England LMSC will celebrate "April is Adult-Learn-to-Swim" Month." This is the time of year when USMS members nationwide focus on others and share the gift of swimming by volunteering to teach adult swimming lessons in their local communities.
If you know adults who could benefit from swim lessons or if you want to volunteer to help teach, please reach out to any of the teams below or contact

. A few hours of your time could change or save a life!
Also contact Sue or Bill if your masters team is interested in running a Swimming Saves Lives program. Some funds are still available to provide financial support for lifeguard salaries, etc.
If you are interested in more comprehensive ALTS instructor training that will enable you to teach swimming as a professional option throughout the year, consider taking the ALTS certification course in Boston on April 23, 2016.

WELCOME PINEHILLS MASTERS SWIMMING!
Pinehills Masters Swimming is a new workout group formed last summer. All but one of the members are new US Masters members.
This January the group had 12 swimmers complete the One Hour Swim, notching 49,000 yards. It's a small, but growing program.
We enjoyed getting this photo of original Pinehills Masters member Bill Ryan sporting the t-shirt that the One-Hour-Swim competitors created. Ryan is pictured here sporting his OHS tee while counting down the day until their home pool opens for summer outdoor practice sessions.
