Happy Birthday to Jewish Family and Children's Service of Minneapolis! On
Feb. 10, JFCS celebrated its 107 th birthday, and we couldn't be more proud!

As the story goes, on the evening of Feb. 10, 1910, a group of committed community members met to plan how to help the hundreds of refugees anticipated to arrive in Minneapolis in the coming weeks. The refugees were fleeing persecution and anti-Semitism in Europe. In their new homes in the United States, they would need to learn English, find employment, settle family members, care for their sick and acclimate to new customs and situations. This was the beginning of JFCS, where we proudly continue this important tradition today serving the needs of immigrants, refugees and community members who have lived in the Twin Cities for generations.

Introducing the new JFCS website!
Same address; all new website!
Check it out at  www.jfcsmpls.org

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our completely redesigned website at www.jfcsmpls.org. It's a whole new look - for the same great services!

Our goals with the new website are to:
  • Provide clear information on who we are and what we do
  • Make it easy for our visitors to navigate, find information about our programs, how to get help, get involved, volunteer and/or donate
  • Show off our personality - JFCS is a professional, compassionate, welcoming and inclusive agency, and we want our website visitors to observe this immediately
  • Give visitors a sense that they are welcome and belong at JFCS - whomever they are and whatever their background
  • Provide ample information and inviting ways to engage as a volunteer and/or donor
  • Provide a blog that reflects JFCS as a robust and dynamic organization featuring articles that include stories from the heart, testimonials, education, photos and more
We hope you find the new website to be a wonderful reflection of the important work JFCS does to serve and offer support to all in our community who are in need!

Why we all need a little Passover Hag Sameach

JFCS' Passover Hag Sameach Program  was born many years after the launch of our Chanukkah Hag Sameach program, and built upon the same successful model.

As an easy, manageable way to engage with JFCS and our larger community, nearly anyone can participate by decorating, assembling and delivering the Passover bags filled with ritual items and food created for Jewish individuals and families in our community.  Last year JFCS provided nearly 200 food bags for referred families and individuals.

Volunteers literally keep us moving forward!

This month, as we wind our way into spring, JFCS would like to be sure to acknowledge a group of volunteers who keeps us moving forward - literally. Neither snow, sleet, rain, ice or darkness can deter our amazing Deikel volunteer drivers. They are ready to roll and help keep our older adult clients engaged in the best lives they can live by safely transporting them to their essential activities and appointments. Our drivers are often their lifeline to our greater community. We could not make this happen without their help!

JFCS is always looking for committed, energetic drivers to fill this role. Hours are completely flexible and based on your schedule. For more information or to volunteer contact Deb Savitt, Community Involvement Manager, at 952-542-4859 or [email protected].

JFCS Healing Program:
Providing hope and strength for over 22 years

The Twin Cities Jewish Healing Program has offered comfort, hope and strength for over 22 years to Jewish individuals and families unaffiliated with a synagogue who are experiencing loss, life challenges, illness, dying and grief.

The Healing Program has created many heartwarming stories over the years. The support it provided for David, 9, who was diagnosed with a rare and deadly genetic disease, and his family is one of them.

We are privileged to serve all those who seek our help, and inspired by the caring community that supports our work.
