Radnor Library and Radnor Township School District Host Lecture and Discussion on Youth Sports with Local Author Rick Eckstein
The Radnor Memorial Library and Radnor Township School District are proud to present Playing Youth Sports for Fun, Not College, a lecture and discussion with local author Rick Eckstein. The program will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 7pm, in the Radnor Middle School Auditorium.

Families are pouring countless dollars into youth sports under the exaggerated belief that it will pay off with significant college scholarships or admissions advantages into elite universities.  In his new book, How College Athletics Are Hurting Girls’ Sports: The Pay-to-Play Pipeline, Villanova sociology professor and long-time Radnor youth sports coach Rick Eckstein excoriates this expensive and misleading pay-to-play youth sports system.

Eckstein’s lecture will focus on ways that families and schools can make youth sports more about fun, friendship, and  fitness.

Meet the Staff

Sara Owens, Business Manager
What is your role at RML?
For the last 15 years my title has been Business Manager but my real role is doing everything that nobody else does. I do payroll, bookkeeping, financial reporting, manage the meeting rooms, substitute at the circulation desk, make sure we stock everybody's favorite coffee flavors, decide whether it really is too hot or too cold, investigate funny smells....

What is your favorite thing about working at RML?
Despite my occasional complaints, I really do enjoy the variety. Also, Radnor has the best staff and patrons!

What is something you do as a librarian that people would be surprised to learn?
At the old library I dealt with everything that was broken or malfunctioning. The library looked nice so I don't think most people were aware that the HVAC system and much of the equipment was literally falling apart.

What are you most excited about in the library renovation?
A brand-new building where everything works!

What's on your bucket list?
Right now it's to make it to Berlin later this month without my flight being cancelled by a Philadelphia snowstorm. I've been there before but the last time was in 1974. Can't wait to see the many changes since east and west have been reunited.

What was your favorite subject in school?
History, and it still is! I'd much rather visit a medieval city than hike in a national park.
