For the  parents and familes of St. Therese Chinese Catholic School

Dear Parents,

Our March newsletter was delayed a little so our many activities and good news could be included! Chinese New Year brought us a beautiful mass on February 5th, followed by an uplifting parade (in our trolley!) and then our engaging Chinese New Year Benefit. I want to thank the many parents who gave so much of their time and energy to support the benefit. I also want to acknowledge the amazing efforts of Ms. Lofton, Ms. Ling Ling, Ms. Geli and Mr. Tooles. They helped weave together a truly magical evening! I absolutely am captivated by our community's passion and our children's talent. We certainly are seeing tomorrow's leaders unfold before our eyes. We are truly blessed!

Please remember that we have Parent-Teacher Conferences THIS Thursday, March 9th. Be sure to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time so you can begin your appointment on time.

Descriptions and registration forms of our summer programs are available on our website for your convenience (Click here  to view or download these documents). Some highlights include:
  • Fun summer camps from June 5-16, which includes a swimming option.
  • Summer academic program (six-weeks).
  • One-week Boot Camp to learn chromebook basics, Edline management, GoogleDocs, and digital citizenship. This offering is highly encouraged for all incoming fifth-grader students.
We are starting to feel the signs of spring emerge and we couldn't be happier. I hope that this Lenten season brings a rebirth in our lives as we feel the warmth of the sun upon us.

Blessings,
Ms. Cavallone
Principal

Chinese New Year Benefit a Great Success

Our CNY Benefit on March 4th was a resounding success. Student performances were absolutely wonderful, enjoyed by our school families, dignitaries, alumni, and other guests. St. Therese is grateful for the participation of our students, work of event volunteers, and the generosity of all who took part in this very important fundraising event for St. Therese Chinese Catholic School. With everyone's help, our school can reach and accomplish more for our children.

Trinity Lee (8) placed 2nd place in the 2017 Chicago Spelling Bee Collaborative a few weeks ago. Trinity has won 1st place in the St. Therese School for the past three years in a row, qualifying her for the Chicago area spelling bee in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Junior High Social Studies Classes Focus on Black History in February

Black History Month was commemorated at St. Therese in February. Visiting teacher  Olettia Cheers spoke with our Junior High History classes on a myriad of topics, from the remarkable contributions of African-Americans in science, medicine, politics, s ports, culture, etc. to slavery, the US Civil War, the civil rights movement, and current events. Students  deepened their knowledg e and appreciation of these topics through class discussions, writing assignments , group projects and performances.
One of our eighth-grade students reflecting on Ms. Cheer's teaching rem arked,  "Ms. Cheers's time with us, however brief, was extremely enlightening. I will never forget what she taught us about black history and culture." Another student shared, "Ms. Cheers truly showed us that you should be comfortable in the skin you are in."

Best Wishes to Our 3rd Grade Teacher!

Ms. Jessica Conlin, St. Therese 3rd grade teacher, got married on Saturday, February 25th. She and her husband, Stoten Stofko, celebrated with family and friends. Their favorite parts of the day were saying "I do", their first dance, and the cupcakes.  Jessica and Stoten met in college, where they played tennis together. Ms. Conlin will be changing her name to Mrs. Stofko (pronounced "Stouf-Ko"), however, she will still go by Ms. Conlin for the remainder of the school year.
