Please note the information below in preparation for our March 2017 Alumni General Membership Meeting:
General Membership Meeting

Our next Alumni General Membership meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 9, 2017, 6pm-7:30pm, in the McDonogh 35 Library, 4000 Cadillac Street, located on the first floor.  As always, please contact fellow Roneagles and either bring them with you or encourage them to attend and become an official paid member of the McDonogh 35 Alumni Association. Click to see the March meeting agenda, February meeting minutes, January Treasurer Report and February Financial Secretary report.

Charter School Conversation

At our last meeting, discussions were held to determine the Alumni Association's position on the charter school conversion of McDonogh 35 along with the other remaining traditional schools (McMain High School, Bethune, Franklin, and Jackson Elementaries) as a network cluster. In the Fall of 2015, the Alumni Association presented a "Transition Plan" to Supt. Henderson Lewis.  Its purpose is to share our concerns and solutions to support our alma mater and world-renowned legacy. Many of our proposed recommendations have taken place:

  - Removal of the 7th and 8th grade programs so the focus of the school is 9th - 12th grades
  - Lower the pupil/teacher classroom ratios
  - Institution of a JROTC and dual enrollment programs
  - Regular scheduled meetings with the Supt. and his staff with the McD35 Alumni Association

Although much has been accomplished, there is still much to do. Our mission is to preserve the reputation and character of McDonogh 35 as an institution of academic excellence and cultural pride. We will continue to support McDonogh 35, and will remain engaged with the Charter conversation.  Furthermore, Dr. Henderson Lewis is having a meeting immediately after our General Meeting on Thursday.  Click here for invitation.

Preparation for LEAP and EOC

State Accountability Testing will begin in early April 2017.  Last year, the Alumni Association assisted the school with LEAP (Louisiana Education Assessment Program) and EOC (End of Course Testing) preparations.  We are scheduled to meet with the administration to learn what the current testing assistance plans are and how we can help.  With the support of the Alumni Association, the school improved nearly 7 performance points on their 2016 School Performance Score (SPS).
