The Schools Are Alive with Music
With funding from the Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP) and support from community partners, our district-wide music program in grades four through eight is like few other in the country.
Our vibrant elementary and middle school music education program is made possible with the dedication and expertise of the 18 music teachers who travel from school to school to teach our students.
Much goes on behind the scenes to make the music program possible, including storing and repairing of instruments, lesson planning and professional development, and peer collaboration.

As winter draws near, come enjoy the sound of music and holiday spirit happening in our school community. Musical performances are always a highlight for students, parents, and teachers alike.

Schools Fund Awards Classroom Grants to Teachers
The
Schools Fund approved special project funding for 2015-16; awarding projects for over half of the teachers in the District for a total of $242,475.
Every year the Schools Fund supports teacher projects for all grade levels, schools, and subject areas to provide enrichment and support for students. This year, there was a significant increase in science-related grants that expand opportunities for students, such as:
- It's a Gas! Inquiry-based Science at Berkeley Arts Magnet,
- Outdoor Science Camp at several schools,
- Coding for Kids at Malcolm X,
- STEM opportunities for students with special needs at Oxford,
- Racing with the Sun: Creating a Solar Car at all three middle schools,
- "STEMify" the curriculum at Berkeley Technology Academy, and many more!
