K-State Polytechnic's information systems gives tricks and tips for Office and Office 365

Downloading Microsoft Office Pro Suite:
Did you know that K-State's Office 365 allows you to install the Microsoft Office Pro Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) on up to five of your own personal computers, and on up to five of your mobile devices?  NOTE: Do not attempt to download Microsoft Office on K-State computers, it is not compatible with the existing software.   http://www.k-state.edu/its/office365/help/

Microsoft Licensing Error Messages:
Users often see messages indicating that product activation has failed, and that a product key is needed, or that Microsoft Office cannot verify the licenses for the product. The messages often warn that your software "may be counterfeit," or "is not genuine".  In nearly all cases, these issues can be fixed by simply rebooting the computer to allow Microsoft updates to take effect.

Manage Your Inbox With Clutter:
The Office 365 Clutter feature helps you by filtering low-priority emails into the Clutter folder, saving time for your most important messages. This is separate from the Junk Email folder. You can teach Clutter to be more effective as you use it. If you see a low-priority email in your inbox, drag the email into the Clutter folder. If you see a message that was sent to Clutter by mistake, drag the email into your Inbox. Clutter can be turned on and off at any time. http://www.k-state.edu/its/office365/

K-State Air Force ROTC achieves 100 percent selection rate
As cadets go through Air Force ROTC, they reach certain milestones as their time in the program progresses. The first key milestone is being issued their first set of uniforms, and ends with graduation and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

However, there is one milestone that only a few select cadets achieve. That milestone is being selected for a rated position within the United States Air Force.

Rated positions are highly competitive, highly selective jobs in the Air Force. Rated positions specifically are those jobs that pertain to the flying career fields, such as becoming a pilot or combat systems officer (CSO), among many other positions. This year, 762 cadets from across the nation were selected for those coveted rated positions.

Of those 762 cadets, Kansas State University's Air Force ROTC Detachment 270 achieved a 100 percent selection rate, with three cadets being selected for a rated position: Cadet Maxamillyan Badgett, junior in the professional pilot program on the Polytechnic Campus, was selected to become a pilot, and Cadet Reed Troyer, junior in the wildlife and outdoor enterprise management program, and Cadet Jake VanBurkleo, junior in the kinesiology program, both on the Manhattan Campus, were selected to become combat systems officers.

These cadets put in hard work and dedication to earn these positions in the Air Force. Congratulations!
Senator Jerry Moran visits Polytechnic Campus, UAS program
Senator Jerry Moran made a stop on March 3 to the Polytechnic Campus to check out the unmanned aircraft systems, or UAS, program. He was able to tour the facilities, learn about UAS technologies and research, and discuss with staff the program's plans for the future.

Moran said that his interest in aviation comes from his membership in the Senate Commerce Committee, which has oversight over the Federal Aviation Administration, and the proximity of Fort Riley as well as the Great Plains Training Center.

Moran's stop in Salina also focused on agriculture, recognizing the challenges that face the industry as well as offering hope through the new Farm Bill, which will contain a stronger safety net for crop and livestock producers.

A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. Kansas State Polytechnic's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

Congratulations to associate professor Drew Smith!
I would like to send a high-five to Drew Smith, associate professor in aviation maintenance management, for being selected for a significant education honor. He is this year's Ivan D. Livi Aviation Maintenance Educator of the Year Award recipient, which recognizes the outstanding achievement of an aviation maintenance technology instructor. It is faculty like Drew that makes this campus great!
