March is here and so is Week 11!
We are in Week 11 of the Winter Share, which means that after this week, there are only 4 more bags. Time flies when you're eating well! The last pick up of the Winter Share is the first week of May (Wednesday, May 3rd - Saturday May 6th.) While we're sad to see it go, it does mean that summer is right around the corner and so is the
Summer Share 2017!
A reminder -- the
Summer Share 2017 begins on May 31st, which means
there are three full weeks off between seasons. We take that time to get everything organized in our warehouse, train new staff, repair trucks and plan with our farmers. In the mean time, if you run out of any of your Fresh Fork favorites, you can always stop by
Ohio City Provisions to get eggs, milk or bacon (& plenty of other things!)
What's in the bag? We have a brunchy bag coming your way this week! Frozen strawberries, pancake mix, eggs, sausage-bacon breakfast patties and grape cider. We'll also be bringing along lots of other breakfast goodies to sell at the back of the trucks (think breakfast links, extra eggs, maple syrup, bacon, maple links and granola)-- maybe breakfast for dinner this week?
The breakfast patties were a happy accident that we came up with a few years back. As we were processing bacon, the butcher had a bunch of leftover bacon ends after cutting the long, lean slices. We decided to grind them up with some pork sausage, and low and behold it was delicious. They're perfect with a quick sear on an oven-safe skillet, then finished in the oven for 15-20 minutes (350 degrees.) FYI- they will still be slightly pink on the inside because of the bacon.
You'll also each have an onion, frozen tomatoes, some kale, red kidney beans and a ham hock-- perfect for making a delicious soup! Try our
Pasta e Fagiole (Pasta & Bean Soup) recipe, which calls for a bunch of the ingredients coming in your bag (ham hock, red kidney beans, onion, frozen tomatoes and kale.) You'll also need some pantry/fridge staples: macaroni, carrots and celery, some parmesan, lemon, herbs and spices.
The Vegetarian Share subscribers will get a quart of creamy broccoli soup, which contains broccoli, potatoes, heavy whipping cream, butter, golden white hard wheat flour & veggie stock (onions, garlic, parsley, Himalayan pink salt, white pepper, thyme, bay leaf, and rainbow carrots.) If you have an allergy or restriction, please let your Greeter know and they'll offer you a substitution. Vegetarians will also get a quart of our frozen corn-- make
some fritters or add to a
kidney bean slow-cooker Minestrone.

We're not sure what out favorite first signs of spring are, but crisp and sweet asparagus is certainly one of them! We'll start to see the stalks showing up in May or early June, along with ramps and spring onions. |

Ham Hocked Beans
Our smokey ham hocks impart a delicious flavor to dried beans. This recipe takes a lot of time but minimal effort, so make sure to read all the way through before starting.
Stretch the dish even further by adding in the frozen tomatoes and corn at the end for a thicker stew version!
