March Chapter Meeting - Design and Investigation of Artificial Turf Fields

Please join us for our monthly chapter meeting! This month, we are delighted to have CSI East Bay-Oakland member Christine Diosdado of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger as our guest speaker. Christine will be talking with us about the design and investigation of artificial turf fields. More than 11,000 multi-use artificial turf sports fields are currently installed in North American schools, colleges, parks and professional sports stadiums, and this trend is expected to continue.  SGH has investigated several artificial turf field failures and has gained a good understanding on how to avoid issues that impact initial and long-term performance.

After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Discuss the history and evolution of artificial turf fields.
2. Identify the basic components and performance criteria of an artificial turf field used for football and soccer.
3. Recognize key materials and desired engineering properties of a typical artificial turf assembly
4. Outline best practices when designing and investigating artificial turf fields

Christine Diosdado is a Senior Project Manager at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger with more than twenty years of experience as a lead investigator, project manager, and expert witness on complex, construction defect cases. Her investigation experience encompasses a wide variety of building types. Her notable recent projects include an examination of material and soil properties at nine artificial turf athletic fields. Christine assists owners, contractors, design professionals, and attorneys.
